this means nvidias low end card will not have DX11 support though.

this will slow the uptake of dx11 amongst devs, which is bad for all of us in the long run.
nvidia seem determined to annoy as many people as possible right now.

Look at it this way.

200 series = dx10 + 65/55nm
300 series = dx10.1 + 40nm
400 series = dx11 + 40nm + cuda 3.0 + 3D vision surround + entirely new compute architecture

Honestly nvidia's naming system is actually pretty easy to understand. Only thing they did wrong was the 210/220/240 should have been the 310/320/340 to begin with. Unfortunately their marketing department didn't want to do that since they were afraid it would turn into another 9600GT incident where people bought the new higher number card assuming it would be faster because it has a higher number and then complained about it. Not to mention it would make it look like that was all they had to offer, like the 300 series was slower than the 200 series, which it will be anyways so I don't see why they held off.

[citation][nom]nforce4max[/nom]The only use to me for one of these is to replace a 8400gs that is being used for physx.[/citation]
Hmm... so there may be a use of these cards after all. =)

"The GT 340 appears to be a GT 240 but with a GDDR5 bump"

What are you talking about? There has been GDDR5 version of GT240 from the day it launched.

why do you think they told us all that dx11 won't be a big thing for a long time. Just like the dx10.1, they are stalling the market again and forcing companies to use their PhysX as the real new thing or so they want us to believe.

Nvidia should go back to head to head competition with ATI on all markets, not just high end. We need to have strong video cards so the gaming companies will see that the PC has a lot more to offer than the consoles and maybe some change to a PC first and port down to consoles, which makes more sense than port up to pc which leaves a crappy result.

Nvidia, get down from that high horse and get back to your core business, selling cards. Selling air is not what we need right now. Maybe we should have a new company pick up nvidia's slack and go head to head with ATI.

[citation][nom]killerclick[/nom]8800GT is awesome, best hardware purchase I ever made (2.25 years ago). I'll probably keep it for another year.[/citation]

Just re-brand it and its going to be cutting edge.

Its funny how Nvidia keeps outselling ATI, yet ATI fanbois whine on with these straw man arguments. Maybe they should be concerned with ATI selling new cards with higher prices that are slower than last generation.
Namely the 5770 and below. Oh WAIT, thats right, they have eyefinity and dx11 . The first you will never use and both features the cards are underpowered to actually utilize. But you suckers keep eating it up.
It is sad that numerous 'old' Nvidia cards just plain play games better than ATI's micro stuttering, Grey screening, flickering in dual screen fiascoes.

So, can either of you show us the Newegg or any other retail listing for these cards?

Well, enthusiasts will always look for the latest and the greatest. But the fact that the G200/G92 core and its derivatives still hang around is a testament to the robustness and longevity of the design. It'll be an instant inductee to the GPU Hall of Fame when it finally gets EOL'd, joining the ranks of Matrox G400, Voodoo 2, Rage 128, and ATI's 9800 series. Just my opinion.

I'd rather they make the new videocards all GX2 or native crossfired, takes the old tech GPUs and just start slapping 2 of them together on a PCB sandwich and let the gamers play for cheap. Why spend millions on R&D and making the new Fermi supersized when the tech is already for gamers to have ridiculous framerates at reasonable prices? The videocard makers won't have to charge an arm and a leg if they can buy the remaining stock of G80, G92 etc etc for rock bottom prices and make eveything dual GPU on one board! Too bad they don't listen to my rants! Lol.

I'm slagging them off now because they deserved to be slagged off now? It's gotten silly really with this rebadging rename scheme as if it's an evil plot to confuse the consumers. Well, if you'd like to buy one now there are probably stalls in the Hong Kong or Taiwan grey markets but no worries, just wait and NVidia will deliver their latest act soon.
