From what I understand, ShadowPlay is supposed to use part of the GPUs processing power for the video encoding? Can anyone confirm this? Is this the same as FRAPS or does FRAPS utilize CPU power for encoding?
 


yes it will use specific nvidia hardware that exist in kepler called NVenc. also from my personal experience recording FRAPS using my dual E7500 the performance hit was larger than 50%. when moving to my 2500K setup recording using FRAPS did not affect the performance at all.
 

Yeah sorry, i meant the After Burner recording thingy. It works a bit differently than FRAPS and more like Shadow Play, in the sense that it encodes the raw frames, FRAPS doesn't.

I think i'm being overtly simplistic here, so take this as a very coarse explanation, please :)
