Nvidia Shield Controller not working properly

I had been using my Nvidia Shield Controller on my laptop, which was working perfectly fine for a while. After a few days, however, it stopped working. The trackpad on it was fine, and I could use it to move the cursor and click, but all of the buttons were not functioning. After a bit of research, I found that I had to open device manager, disable the HID-compliant game controller, restart my system, enable it again, and all would be back to normal. I did this, which allowed me to use my controller properly again, but when I stopped using my laptop and switched it off, and later back on again, my controller had stopped working again so I had to restart my computer another time. I now have to do this every time I want to use the controller, which is very frustrating as it takes a long time to open device manager, then restart my laptop. All of my drivers are up to date. I would like a permanent fix for this; not something that requires me to restart my computer every time.

Don't worry guys; I found out that the issue was that I had to leave the controller plugged onto my laptop before I switched it on, which I hadn't done before. The reason the fix stated above worked was because it involved restarting my computer, which I left my controller plugged in for.
