NVidia SLI 9600gt

A friend of mine is upgrading his system and the motherboard he intends to use is gigabyte p67a-ud3p-b3. My cuestion is if he'll be able to do a SLI with two NVidia GeForce 9600gt 1gb because this motherboard has two PCIExpress connectors but one works at 4x. I've read that with CrossfireX there is no problem and the performance is almost the same with 16x/16x than with 4x/4x but I don't know if the same applies to SLI.

As far as I'm aware, SLI needs the slots to run at at least x8 to even work. Even if you have the SLI bridge, I don't think the driver will even let you enable SLI with one of the cards running at x4.
