I'm a bit new to this sli and crossfire stuff, but I want to buy a used and cheap gtx 960, besides my current one. But my Gigabyte H170-HD3 motherboard only supports Crossfire. I'm not sure if sli would work. My CPU is a 6400 i5 with 16 gigabytes of RAM. I also didn't do any bios updates yet, but I will do it if it's required.

Solution
No it wont. You need a SLI compatible motherboard to use SLI*

*There are "hacks" like DifferentSLI/HyperSLI which mean you can use SLI on non SLI compatible motherboards, but it can be potentially unstable and its not supported.
