NVIDIA vs AMD

It depends on allot of things, but mainly it depends on your budget and your CPU.
If you have an Intel cpu it doesnt really matter you can go with a AMD card or Nvidia card, but when it comes to AMD cpus I would much recommend you getting AMD card only because of Mantle.
Nvidia gtx 770 and R9 280x are great cards that are the ''sweet spot'' for any gamer, if you're on a budget R9 270 is the best choice!

If you want the best tehre is and money isn't really much of a problem, then nvidia, if you are on a tight budget but want nearly as good performance for 30-40 percent cheaper, then amd

Futuremark is a really good source of info when choosing cards. They have comparisons of benchmark scores for nearly every card. You can compare AMD vs NVIDIA in both price and performance. Futuremark GPU Scores

All you need for Mantle is an AMD GCN-based video card, it works fine with an Intel CPU.

I don't think any of the proprietary, gimmicky add-ons (Mantle, PhysX, Shadowplay, etc.) are worth factoring into the decision, though. All that really matters in most cases is real-world performance per dollar.
