what will be the difference in Nvidia GT610 2GB ddr3 and AMD R5 230 1GB ddr3 ??? What's the difference in these cards? As I saw in the futuremark tests...it showed gt 610 scored 540 points whereas r5 230 scored 1760 points....so is the r5 230 better???

Solution
The way it's designed and built, and the components used in it, determine whether it will be able to safely deliver the power it promises. Low-quality power supplies can fail even when you're drawing much less power than they're rated for, but good quality power supplies won't.

At least your system will draw very little power, so the risk of power supply problems is minimized.
The R5 230 is a rebranded HD 6450, the GT 610 is a rebranded GT 520.

The GT 520 is sort of a quarter of a GTX 550 Ti, while the HD 6450 is sort of a third of a HD 6670, or a fifth of a HD 5770. Given that the 5770 is slightly faster than the 550 Ti, that means the R5 230 and GT 610 ought to be reasonably closely matched, with the GT 610 probably coming out a bit ahead overall.

But that's just on paper. You'd have to confirm with benchmarks, which is difficult since nobody reviews these low-end garbage cards. If you're interested in getting some actual gaming performance, you should prepare to spend at least a little more, and preferably find a used card. That offers a lot more value than a low-end card bought new.

Digging around, the original launch date for the R5 230 (HD 6450) was April 7, 2011, while the original launch date for the GT 520 (GT 610) was April 12, 2011. So the GT 610 is 5 days newer.

But they're both very old and extremely weak.

ohh sry, i was considering the last release only (2013), my bad.

First, here's my top card for approx $100USD budget (after rebates)-> http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-02gp43751kr
- for a bit more I prefer this card (Asus Strix)-> http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-strixgtx750tioc2gd5

How bad are the GT610 etc?

The following benchmark averages a lot of game AND is done with a good CPU to minimize bottlenecks there (so weaker CPU's will get lower performance). It's still quite useful though:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_750_Ti/25.html

1) GTX750Ti is about 3X more powerful than a GT640, and

2) GT640 vs GT610-> 384 cores vs 48 cores, 4X texures/ROPS diff

Again, this doesn't scale perfectly but you can still see how vastly different these cards are. It's too involved to go deeper into this, though if I had to guess then the difference between the GT610 and GTX750Ti in terms of FPS might be somewhere between 5X and 8X real world difference?

Like say 10FPS vs 60FPS for the same game?

Other:
NVidia is usually recommended for weaker CPU's since the AMD DX11 drivers use more CPU cycles thus more prone to bottleneck.

Other:
PSU-> GTX750Ti can get by with a quality 300W usually. In some cases less depending on rest of system. The one I linked uses under 75W, so if you only used 150W max for the rest of the system you're still at 225W or 75% PSU load.

Other:
Below a GTX750Ti the value diminishes rapidly. For example, if you pay $100 for a 750Ti, then $50 for a GPU will get you wel under half the performance.

Other:
32-bit Windows?
If so, I recommend a 1GB video card. Otherwise get a 2GB video card. (You can upgrade from 32-bit W7 or 32-bit W8.1 to W10 64-bit for free though)

EBay/used?
Warranty issues, but if really stuck at least look up benchmarks.

Games you want to play?
Rest of your system matters too, but it's hard to recommend anything much weaker than a GTX750Ti.

Not comparable like that, due to the very significant architectural differences.

The GT 640 is still a heck of a lot more powerful though.

Quite an exaggerated difference. Besides, CPU bottlenecking is much less likely with low-end GPUs than high-end GPUs. It's maybe a marginal consideration when comparing an R9 390 and a GTX 970, but just doesn't matter in the low-end segment.

Sir, I am not a gamer in that case...will be fine to get a good gaming output at around 1280x720....this card is only for my little brother who play normal games on my home pc like Nfs most wanted, counter strike go....so just finding a cheap card within Rs. 4500 in India....the only problem is not many cheap options available in India...only ones I found were Gt 610, R5 230...just saw the Futuremark scores of both these cards...R5 230 scores around the triple of Gt 610...I didn't understand why is that so...can anyone tell me this?

Hello Prasad!
the minimum System Requirements for CS Go are:
OS: Windows® 7/Vista/XP
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 processor or better
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 3.0
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 8 GB available space

I would Suggest you to get the following card:
http://www.amazon.in/ZOTAC-NVIDIA-DDR5-Graphics-Card/dp/B00L61VGPU/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1458615235&sr=1-4&keywords=graphics+card
It will come around INR 5800 but it seems the best Nvidia option for you..

What score are you talking about, where did you get the numbers from?

Futuremark is a company that makes benchmarks, their actual benchmarks are things like 3DMark Firestrike and PCMark.

In the list of 3DMark Firestrike scores on Futuremark's site, the Radeon HD 6450 (= R5 230) is listed at 520 points. The Geforce GT 610 is listed at 540 points. So they're basically equally terrible. The Geforce GT 730 is listed at 1540 points.

actually no, its much more likely at the lower end scale because the cpu's are much weaker while running lower resolutions

Well if you're running a CPU that would bottleneck a GT 610 or R5 230, you're screwed anyway. More likely you'd have a much more powerful CPU.

i would like to know how you think so when most people dont even run a quad core of any kind

most people dont even run 1080p XD

Doesn't require a quad core to keep up with much more powerful graphics cards than the GT 610 and R5 230. A Pentium G3258 would be overkill for those cards, honestly. And the typical pattern of a cheap prebuilt is a decent CPU with a terrible graphics card.

Looking into the future prospecs with dx12 amd seem to have a headstart already, 290x a few FPS behing 980ti!!! How much of a price differemce is that for same performance? Only thing is nvidia have physix!! Its a hard one as im not a fan boy! Iv played metro last light on a red and green card and with physix it makes itt so much better!!! But amd cant handle it. But dx 12 is better for amd atm.... Hmmm oh but then amd has mantle!!! How can you say one is better than the other??? They perform better in different areas, I guess its what thing is more usefull to your needs? Nvidia also have the quatro range for cad ect... Hmmm I really cant decide

That's when the graphics card is capable of higher framerate, but the CPU is not. Then the CPU is holding back performance.

I doubt this would happen for you, but if you tell us what CPU you have we could answer definitively.

Ye people say bottlenecking but the term is abit off, your pc simply downgrades the performance of more powerfull hardware to a suitable and capable speed for the lesser so hardware. I run an old phenom ii 965 so this happens alot for me 😛
