Nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 314.22 stopped responding and has recovered

so I tried installing some software and it failed to install and since the installation attempt if I stop moving my mouse for a certain period of time then move it again the screen goes black then comes back on and a balloon popup says "a windows kernel mode driver version 314.22 stopped responding and has recovered." I did a system restore and it fixed it, but i tried reinstalling the software again cuz i wanted it to work and the same thing happened only this time I have no restore points and I wasn't smart enough to make a back up of the ones I had used before. I tried updating to old driver versions and that doesn't help. I also tried fixing registry errors with cccleaner to no avail. What could this attempted software installation have affected that would cause this and how can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Having the same problem...I have a haunch is heat...Stopped using this desktop for games for about 6 months...Once in a while I open the desktop and vacuum the the vents and insides, the problem disappear, and after a month or so it is back...Maybe the Alienware High-Performance Liquid Cooling System is failing, because lately I get this from Alien ware Thermal controller, after it crashes...

I wound up figuring it out in the end. The bad installation left some residual files I was only able to find with your uninstaller. After I removed them everything worked great
