Oh nVidia. What are we going to do with you? Why do you constantly try to confuse people?

Single GPU Cards: GTX 250, GTX 260, GTX 280, GTX 275, GTX 285

Double GPU Cards: GTX 295

Seriously they can't even keep up with their own naming scheme. You'd think the cards ending with "0" would be single GPUs, and the ones ending with "5" would be double GPU. But no, that's only the case with the GTX 295.

Though I usually buy nVidia cards, I have to give it to AMD here. At least their cards (such as 4870X2) make it obvious when there are dual GPUs on board.

[citation][nom]zipzoomflyhigh[/nom]The 295 is better moron. Its nearly twice as fast. Duh![/citation]

I think you're being a bit harsh on Dreasconse. Honestly after reading the article the first time through, I too got the confounded impression that the GTX 275 would be faster than the GTX 295. It wasn't made very clear in the article that the GTX 295 was dual GPU, where as the GTX 275 was only a single core. The article should have been written more clearly on this point.

Plus, nVidia's own confusing naming scheme makes one wonder if the GTX 275 is dual-GPU or not. Their marketing team is the one deserving of your "moron" statement. 😉

It used to be so simple:
Geforce 1
Geforce 2
Geforce 3
...
"I have a geforce 4 ultra in my computer. -I have a gf4 mx..." by then the discussion was over between two fanatics. Both parties knew exactly what card it was, and who had the better one.

On the other hand: people who read thg usually *know* about
the hardware before they buy it, in the end, it all comes down
to the fps they get.

[citation][nom]zipzoomflyhigh[/nom]RiotSniper, your an idiot. The 295 is twice as fast as the 275 lol.[/citation]

I dont know where i stated the 275 being faster then the 295, I suggest a strong presciption of reading glasses because i never said anything, so, you just caused self-pwnage.

[citation][nom]chris13th[/nom]Agreed. I tend to go with AMD, because lately they seem to be superior in that department. The 4890 will more than likely be my card of choice, unless something terrible with the new card happens. *cough 3800 series* if that's the case, i will just crossfire my 4850 and call it good for a while.[/citation]
I have a hd3870x2, 3850, and 3870 and hasn't had a problem. You must of mean the 2900 series, those are horrible I know I've use it and give it a pass.

no it still works fine

both companies moved towards higher number = greater performance

no matter how you look at it it still fits in that scheme

its up to the consumer to do the research, not the companies job to make it clear for them... people who walk into a store and arbitrarily choose a card need to learn how to do research

its not their fault... but its also not the companies... its just unfortunate so many people don't take the 30 minutes to figure out which is actually better and then go for it

[citation][nom]demonhorde665[/nom]well ther is that and then old argument , bettrer visuals or more speed ? nvida has faster speed , but their color and pixel shader quality is stillb e hind ati , (they use 16 bit precision shaders while ati is using 32 bit) not to mention ati has a ahrdware soft sahdows for thiuer cards[/citation]
yea, but that would fall into the "performance" category.

This is pretty easy to understand. 295 > 285 > 275 > 260v3. 280 has been replaced by 285 so it is no longer in the lineup.

ATI is doing the same thing; 4870x2 > 4890 > 4870 > 4850 > 4770 > 4750 > 4670 > 4650. 4830 (and in my opinion 4850) will be replaced by 4770 so they are no longer in the lineup. 4850x2 might be a stillborn and soon replaced by 4890.

When people get the experience of 4890 and gtx 275, come at the conclusion that which one is better compare to price and efficiency.
