The 4870 beats the 280 frequently with 8x aa and 16 af on. But those settings aren't tested most of the time for some reason. I mean lets face it, all these cards give us way more FPS than we need. It's only the filter loads that matter. So in that case, the 4870 > 280 for less than half the price. Count in a 30% boost in any future dx10.1 game and the PhysX mod for Ati cards and you're left with absolutely no excuse to buy the 280/260 GTX... save for linux, ati is bad with linux support.
 
I will buy a GTX 260 for it's Linux support. I've seen one for €300. I also intend to program for CUDA, so I cannot buy an ATI card. Not everyone who buys a GTX 260 is an idiot, you know!
