NWN Ch. 3, freeing Nax

Before I found out that summoning the water elemental was a part of
freeing Nax, I summoned it and got a magic item from it. (I probably
should have known to wait.) Anyway, I fetched another slaad's tongue and
tried again but it doesn't work. Does this mean I can't free Nax? Is
there any way around this?

Without cheating, Nax is a goner. Fortunately for you, it is not
necessary to free him to gain the Snowglobe.

If your character is good, feel free to have him/her experience
appropriate regret. 😉

Do you get anything good for freeing him? Or a lot of experience?

Also, I was wondering. Since the scroll to get into the dungeon is used
up once you are in, let's say you use your Stone of Recall to go back to
the Well, then you use the Stone again. How would you get back to the
dungeon if you hadn't gotten the snow globe yet?

How do you cheat in this situation?

Also, I was thinking, Nax said there might be two summoning pools in the
dungeon. Is that true, or is it just the one?

(As you can tell, I'm the kind of person who wants to do everything
possible in a game!)

Hah! So much for 'appropriate regret'. A little neutral, are we?

You can bring up the console command line by pressing ~ (tilde).

Use the following console commands:
DebugMode 1
dm_runscript m3q3bsummo_setup
dm_runscript m3q3bsummo_use

Talk with the elemental.

Don't forget to 'DebugMode 0' when you're done.

No guarantees.

Yeah, actually I *am* neutral, although I did a few things to kick me up
to "Good," which I'm trying to lower again. :)

It worked perfectly, but I didn't save my game yet. Are there any
problems with doing something like this? Could it hurt the save game
file at all?

Also, does it matter when I put in DebugMode 0? Should it be before or
after I speak with the freed Nax?

You can't free Nax; however, you aren't missing anything.

Hi all,
I don't remember how, but I DID free Nax and reaped the paltry benefits
of doing so.

No kidding. I used the cheat and got nothing for it but 100 exp, which
is still good. I think when I officially free him (since I didn't save
yet), I'll kill him instead of letting him go. That will help me get rid
of that pesky "Good" reputation I have. :)

Gosh darnit! You get a boost of reputation for freeing him, though.

Will I ever become disreputable again!? :)

It won't do any damage to your saved game. I would put in the
'DebugMode 0' just any time before you leave the room.

Great, thank you! :)

Btw, I've managed to come up with an in-game justification for doing
this: I figure since Cyril (the mage) used to summon creatures all the
time, there isn't any reason I can't use the summoning pool more than
once, even if re-using it requires extra 'research'. So that extra
research was coming in here and asking about it, and now when I use the
cheat, I'll just pretend I'm casting some arcane spell that only a few
people know about. Not bad, huh? 😉

Sorry, but there is no loss of reputation for killing him - he's no commoner

Another thought: does freeing him or killing him have an effect on
anything else in the game? Like Lillian, or something else?

No. As far as the game is concerned, Nax is a non-entity.

Your neutrality offends my chaotic goodness! *sics his spider on you*

Actually, I still need to lower my Good 10 more points before I hit
Neutral again.

And I hate spiders! :)
