Oak / Birch / Beech table top?

[strike]depends on the type of figure and grain you want. oak is coarse grained, beech is fine to medium grained and birch is medium grained. oak will always be rough even if finished due to grain.

we do much woodworking with oak given its availability locally (we use our own trees for lumber) and it is certainly very strong but will have a slightly rough texture even after final sanding unless you polyurethane it to level it out.

beech is going to be finer and birch is medium fine.

honestly as long as they are sealed (polyurethane or similar) you should be fine with any of them.[/strike]

see below comment. i was thinking you were referring to solid wood tops not particleboard with thin veneer.

All of them are made from particle board, as most of IKEA's wood work. They are all covered with a 3.5 mm wooden surface. All have 25 year guarantee. If you want/like particle wood, any of them is ok, it's only your preference of surface type that decides.

i did not really give the links much look. i was thinking of solid wood characteristics. edited my comment above accordingly.

particle board is not a good choice at all if you want a durable surface that is moisture resistant. if you get water on the surface it will swell up and split. i've seen this happen very much with shelves, countertops, tables, etc.
