[SOLVED] OBS full screen projector dropping frames

When full screen projecting my gaming monitor to a virtual display (capture card) my game has fps drops. Not spiking necessarily, but when playing it's mostly fine, for about 1-2 minutes and eventually it spikes down from my usual 100 + fps down to 80. This combined with a 144hz monitor ensures I have a horrible experience.

make sure the external capture device is set to use the same refresh rate as the original output.
many times these devices are recording at 60fps even though the output device is running at a higher frame rate.

you should limit frame rate when recording to make a more stable recording.
