Not 'upgrading' but having these two systems and wondering if its worth switching from my 920 @ 3.6ghz to the 3350p ivy (stock ofcourse). Trying to look for benchmarks and other forum discussions, though those are often old discussions and alot of different opinions.
The ivy bridge i5 obviously is more modern, PCIE3, native USB3/sata6 etc and the CPU has AVX instructions which are kinda good to have as games are requiring it more and more. However the i7 920 has HT which might be more usefull?
Im planning to team it with a RX470 8gb oc and hence the question.

Now i know both these systems are ancient, i am merely going to have one of these as a stop-gap for about a year or two (not for next gen games ofcourse).

Right. I might swap PC's, its just some hassle, but perhaps the i5 is a better fit for the RX470. Even though the old 920 OC's to 3.6ghz across all 4 cores, while the 3350 obviously only clocks one core to 3.30ghz.

I plan to play CP2077 at 30fps/low settings.

With your nice overclock, I doubt you would benefit much.
You can do considerably better with even a minimal $250 budget and latest gen.

Their quite close i have gathered, however i am not upgrading, have a i5 3350p system stuffed away, and wonder if its worth the hassle to dig that system out and reinstall windows/copy over etc. Just as a stop-gap for some older and cross-generation games. Can get RX470 very cheap, and wonder if i'd stuff that in the 920 or the 3550p system on a clean install.
BFV does benefit from HT,

Complete new system next year or so.

It depends a lot on what you are doing with it. The 8 threads of the i7-920 will come in handy for a lot of recent multiplayer games.

i7-3770 will set you back only $30-40, probably worth it for short term gains.

Was thinking that, im mostly into multiplayer games, but the 920 doesnt support AVX which is becoming abit annoying. 3770's are very rare somehow in the used market.

Allright i see where this is going. Seeing i already have a 1155 mb/system, i will try to look for a 2600k as they arent so rare and can be found at around 10usd with some luck. Should be whole lot faster than either 920 @ 3.6 or the stock i5 3350.
Socket 1155 just isnt that widespread of a socket it seems.

i7 920 and i5 3350 are about the same in games.
In both cases, your RX 470 is more likely to be the bottleneck than the CPUs. Not in all games, but in many.
