Soooooo to start I have built myself a couple of computers in my life but have always struggled with the software end of things a good chunk of the time. Unfortunately this will be long and a bit complicated so bear with me.

My last pc (currentish) PC

Case: Raidmax Super Hurricane
MoBo:M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
GPU: N560GTX-TI TWIN FROZR II (GeForce)
CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 550
PSU: Raidmax Hybrid 2 RX‑630SS
RAM: 2 Kingston KVR1333D3/2GR
OS: Windows 7 Professional x32
HDD: WD10EADS-00L5B1(OS install)
HDD: WD10EAVS-00D7B1 (storage)

This PC was put together to simply PLAY World of Warcraft, which it did very well. After a few years I found myself not being able to play games which I had been waiting for due to not meeting system requirements. One being 32bit OS and only 4GB of RAM(3.75 is what Windows claimed). So I installed an authentic version of

CURRENT OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

Knowing I needed to upgrade my RAM I made the terrible idea to simply buy one stick of

New RAM: Crucial 4GB DDR3 Model CT51264BA160B

After putting this in my PC I was capable of running everything I wanted. Then gradually my games began to lag out, and stopped rendering scenery and textures heavily in most games. Then my screen started to black out here and there, then it would seemingly data mosh itself with the image up. After a couple of days I noticed blue and red specks on my screen. I noticed this as a GPU problem or monitor issue so I replaced my monitor and bought a

CURRENT GPU: MSI Twin Frozr Nvidia GTX 750

Shortly after these upgrades my pc became more stable.

....Then came GTA V....

My pc handled it fine but it would crash and close GTA on Alt+Tab. So I figured maybe I was just bottle necking somewhere. Then I played GTA for an hour and a half and the game froze in a stuttering loop. The picture had frozen along with my pc and the sound was stuttering the same quarter note into infinity. This didn't happen again for a while. I had only seen it a few times before and again assumed video card problems perhaps. Then I remembered my RAM. So I invested in

CURRENT RAM: 2X4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz

This for the most part solved ALL of the problems I had been having. Then what seemed like the 31x.xx NVidia update is when my serious problem started happening. My screen would go beyond data moshing it was completely scrambling. Audio was still fine, played through but my game and even Netflix would crash. The screen would go black then recover 19/20 times. When the screen returned everything would "rubberband" like being reconnected to a live MMO. Then from my taskbar "Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver (current driver version)has stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Since I had a new mobo and case on the way to my house(have been battling internet connectivity problems as well) I figured I'd fight through the pain of lags and visual errors. Finally my new parts had arrived.

CURRENT CASE: Raidmax Narwhal
CURRENT MOBO: ASUS M5A97 PLUS

As I upgraded these and dumped all of my hardware into this new chassis with a new mobo I reinstalled Windows 7 to make sure that I was on a clean slate. Installs on everything went smooth as butter. So I've gone through the hell of virtually replacing everything except my PSU, my CPU and fan, and my HDD. I did invest in a Kingston 120GB SSD but am having a hard time to get my PC to recognize it. All my cables EXCEPT my PCI cables have been replaced. Yet my PC is still having the screen black itself out. It does black out but it doesn't seem to crash my display kernel. If it is no message is being displayed so I doubt that is the case. Just to make sure it wasn't my display settings that had been reset I checked my screen saver and it was set to off.

I am frankly out of ideas. Rolling back my drivers didn't help. Neither did updating everything to its most recent (not Beta) releases. Any help would be marvelous, I'm losing sleep over being stumped.

tl;dr:

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
GPU: MSI Twin Frozr Nvidia GTX 750
CPU: AMD Phenom II X2
RAM: 2X4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz
CASE: Raidmax Narwhal
MOBO: ASUS M5A97 PLUS
HDD: WD10EADS-00L5B1(OS install)
HDD: WD10EAVS-00D7B1 (storage)

"Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver (current
driver version)has stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Screen keeps blacking out. Have replaced everything except CPU/Cooler, and PSU. Can't think anymore, brain hurts. Plz send halp.

Anything would be nice, I am aware of google but haven't been able to find anything that works. My last guess is obviously possibly a faulty HDD. That's just me whistling in the dark though. hahaha Thank you in advance!

Solution
First off, get rid of that Raidmax PSU. Even if your problem isn't PSU related, which it sounds like it may be, you are playing with fire using that thing. This one would be a great choice, for the money.

Now for the system requirements, you mentioned earlier, regarding WoW, your CPU isn't really up to the task anymore, as AMD and WoW don't get along very well as it is, and that one is fairly old...

Now for the system requirements, you mentioned earlier, regarding WoW, your CPU isn't really up to the task anymore, as AMD and WoW don't get along very well as it is, and that one is fairly old. You would have a far more capable cpu, if you upgraded it to an FX 6300 or 8320. While not as good as an i3, or i5, it will still be quite the improvement. GPU wise, you should be ok for medium to high @1080p. I ran a GTS 450, while waiting on my GTX 770 to come in, that I bought from a friend, and that 750 is more powerful, I believe.

This is one thing I did think of first. It's not rated and I've never checked the draw on it. However with other power supplies I've tried(nothing over 600) they haven't given me enough juice to power all 4 cores... This is the only reason I've kept this time bomb of a PSU.

"Now for the system requirements, you mentioned earlier, regarding WoW, your CPU isn't really up to the task anymore, as AMD and WoW don't get along very well as it is, and that one is fairly old."

While this is true I now am more focused on large fractal generation, and more GPU intensive games as of late, also the reason why I haven't upgraded my CPU in years.

"You would have a far more capable cpu, if you upgraded it to an FX 6300 or 8320. While not as good as an i3, or i5, it will still be quite the improvement."

My next CPU I would like to get something capable of running around the same as the i5-i7. However, I'm not a big Intel fan(irrational dislike) and AMD has stated they're releasing their own variety of hyperthreading so I'm bracing for that as well.

"GPU wise, you should be ok for medium to high @1080p. I ran a GTS 450, while waiting on my GTX 770 to come in, that I bought from a friend, and that 750 is more powerful, I believe."

My GPU so far has been able to handle mostly everything I throw at it thus far. Only when my 4 cores are unlocked however. In relation to the OP, the ASUS M5A97 does NOT support or have a core unlocker. I have reinstalled my old M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 unfortunately and am sending the M5 back. I will continue to troubleshoot and thank you for the input!!

Im also on my mobile device and couldn't find a quote function. xS

The thing is my PC for the most part IS stable, since switching back to the M4A89GTD I haven't experienced a kernel failure but I have updated my Nvidia drivers to a MORE recent version 334.89. Perhaps Nvidia figured it out? All in all I will absolutely start looking for a new PSU and CPU. I have a Corsair water cooler Im planning on installing. I just want to make sure my PC is DONE before installing it.

Which raises the question, should I purchase my CPU before my PSU to ensure adequate power? As of now my PC is awfully power hungry, I just need to do the math! hahaha! Thank you for your help!

Ok I'm back again. Never got around to changing my PSU out(no funds available) and the same with my CPU. My instabilities have gotten worse to the point where I can't even start League of Legends without my computer blue screening. My network is regularly crashing on my PC and my PC ONLY on my network of 10-15 devices. I'm at a loss and about to just burn this pile of shit. I'm so tired of this...

My roommate think my PC is part of a botnet which I find highly unlikely considering upon monitoring my network usage nothing out of the ordinary showed up during these disconnects. Another friend thinks I may have a CPU or GPU virus? Is that even a thing? I am hopelessly lost and above all upset that no one knows what the hell is going on...

I am currently in Safe Mode and have had no issues for roughly 15 minutes....

Woof. Ok. That's what I was thinking upon review of what happened last night. This has been driving me mad, I have turned my unlocker off so I'm only running dual cores to see if I may just have a faulty core, which could relate to my blue screens and all out bricking. I am putting money aside this week for a new power supply that is 700w gold rated. Granted it's more than I need, I just don't want to be replacing my PSU the next time I make an upgrade. While I was writing this up (Gods bless Firefox Restores) my PC Hard froze on dual cores. Would this lead you to believe due to even fewer power requirements that my CPU may actually be the ultimate problem? Besides obviously my garbage PSU....

Still bricking still losing connection.... Tried weaker power supply problem still occurs... Disabled IPv6.... d/c still occurs.... I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna piece this PC out... It's not worth my time or headache anymore...

I appreciate your help I really do, and I also understand that you may be helping many other people here, I'm also a bit savvy with these kind of things... I would not expect a weaker power supply to run the rig I've had before hahahahaha! I believe it does fully support my hardware considering I'm only on dual cores I'm not utilizing roughly 50-60 watts give or take a couple. I've also accounted on most online tools when the options is available %50 capacitor aging taking into account this MOBO is a relic, I went from a SSD to a HDD, with everything accounted for I should only need a roughly 500W to get my system up and running.
With this power supply EXACTLY

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438049

the instabilities were still occurring. So again while I understand that using a weaker power supply may not be the best idea, running on dual core has decreased the number of instabilities. I have switched back to my old Raidmax PSU and the rate and/or number of instabilities is unchanged.

As big of a problem as you think(and we can agree on that)it is, and as it has been stated before my power supply NEEDS to be replaced. I am still saving up for the Corsair AX760 or the Corsair AX760i. As you said I should only need a PSU around 600W, so while 760W may be overkill, I'm a fan of investing in over-achieving computer components if I can afford.

So I return to my previous question, would this lead you to believe due to even fewer power requirements that my CPU may actually be the ultimate problem? after 5+ years I could absolutely see a core just failing from use and a number of problems, installs, etc.

You're either not reading or just too bullheaded to answer. Get off my power supply please. I felt I made it pretty clear in my last post that I know what I'm looking for in the way of power supplies. If you don't want to or don't know the answer just say so instead of not answering to your best ability.... It's worth more headache than I need.. Again I'm at a point where I will just start parting this out if I can't figure this out soon..

So I will repeat....

DUE TO MY SYSTEM STILL SHOWING INSTABILITIES WITH DIFFERENT POWER SUPPLIES AT LOWER POWER CONSUMPTIONS, WOULD THIS LEAD YOU TO BELIEVE THAT CORE DAMAGE COULD BE THE MAIN PROBLEM??

The AX series PSU's are overpriced, sorry if I am trying to save you some money, and get you a superior PSU. Jonnyguru gave it a 9.8 out of 10, which I am pretty certain is the highest score they have ever given. That GS series EVGA, that you linked, is actually more powerful than your raidmax, than what you had. Cheapo Raidmax PSU's tend to be rated higher than their actually capability. Since PSU is not the problem, as you tested the system with the one you linked, then CPU or motherboard probably is the problem. In the 14yrs I have been building, though, I have only seen 1 or 2 CPU's, actually fail. It is rare, but does happen. Motherboards tend to fail more often. If you are certain it is the CPU, though, then pick up an FX 6300 or 6350.

No apology needed!!! I'm the one losing my mind over here, you're helping me through it, no need at all for apologies on your end.

I just have my PC on for sometimes 2-3 days at a time rendering landscapes that bring my PC to a crawl. From my understanding of the PSUs, if I'm looking for a power supply that is operating for at least 24 hours I should be looking at something either gold rated or higher.

Noted, I've only been building for about 7 and and I've only a few CPUs fail as well, most problems have been DOA if anything at all. I'm still not %100 certain what it is at this point though, given my CPU is now the only thing I've yet to replace, and problem still exist; I will be investing in a FX 6300. Once again I thank you for all of your help, and heavens the patience, bless your virtue. I will post here again in a week or two once my order is in and new components installed, and benchmarks and stress testing has been completed.

Yea, if everything else has been replaced, that is all you really have left. That Evga you purchased will hold you over just fine for awhile, as it is an excellent PSU. I had a bad PSU take out a board and CPU on me, before, hence my persistence in that area. Thankfully it was just a cheap extra rig, and not my main.

Upon replacing both my CPU (FX 6300) and a new EVGA 600w Bronze rated(had a friend bring one over) and no luck. PC won't post to BIOS. Tried clearing CMOS multiple times and never got my monitor to respond, nor my keyboard. With and without my video card installed.. Tried it with my old PSU and no luck again. I'm planning on letting my mobo battery sit out overnight to drain any power that may be left over in capacitors.... as of now.... I have a $800 paperweight...

EDIT: Turns out the CPU you recommended isn't compatible with my motherboard. In hindsight, I shouldn't have taken your word for it(this is the internet after all), and done more research before ordering my component... My motherboard doesn't support AM3+... Go fucking figure...

You're absolutely right it does... but that's not the mobo I have... If you had ACTUALLY READ MY POSTS:

1. "In relation to the OP, the ASUS M5A97 does NOT support or have a core unlocker. I have reinstalled my old M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 unfortunately and am sending the M5 back."

2. "The thing is my PC for the most part IS stable, since switching back to the M4A89GTD"

3. "I have turned my unlocker off so I'm only running dual cores"

Well I said it twice and then mentioned my core unlocker(which the M5A97 DOESNT HAVE) that was THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THE M5A97... Considering they are in three different posts one could without a doubt say that I am not on the M5A97.... I put my OLD mobo in after I discovered that it didn't have a core unlocker which rendered my current CPU useless and me without a PC. The M5A97 mobo didnt support my Phenom since no core unlocker like that of the M4A89GTD.... I sent the M5A97 back like I said I did because I mean what I say. I am NOT on the M5A97 I reinstalled my M4A89GTD. So it is NOT AM3+ compatable. My M4A89GTD is screwed into my PC case and connected to a PSU with a CPU in my house. THE M5A97 is back in a newegg warehouse in California because it didn't offer the convenience of what my current mobo(the M4A89GTD) offered.

I appreciate your input but it really seems like multiple times through this thread you haven't paid a lick of attention to what I've been asking OR saying. So I will be parting my PC out since it is now an expensive paaaaaaperrrrrrweiiiiiight. I'm done. I should've expected this. Thank you for your leads.

Sorry that I was not much help, as I didn't go back over word for word, on posts you made over a month ago. I only have time to be on here, during some free time, at work, and that is quite limited as of late. Your PC is not an expensive paperweight. The FX can be sent back, or you can get a proper board for it. Everything else you have tested as being good.
