You socialist bastards will have to pry my flash games and videos from my cold dead hands before I give in!

Look, flash works well for some things (ex. Pandora, though there are still flash elements in it, the interface itself is HTML5), but not as well for things like games. I imagine it'll be a gradual transition. For instance, even if HTMl5 lacks DRM support, it'll still be fine for things like youtube (except youtube HTML5 can't fullscreen videos for now, but that might change).

[citation][nom]mcd023[/nom]so if an alternative comes out, what you've happily used for years becomes tyranny. Am I the only one who thinks that this word is overused?[/citation]

personally i was never happy to use flash, it always ran and still runs like crap. back wi th my p2 333mhz, and than with my p4ht 3ghz or 3.2 i forget. and even now with my phenom II 955 it still runs badly, granted alot of the reason it runs bad is all me, but thats not the point.

[citation][nom]_Pez_[/nom]hmm what have I been missing ? Why suddenly (at least for me) everyone hates Flash player from Adobe.. would you mind telling me why ?.Thank you.[/citation]

well, flash brings my web viewing experience to a scratching hault, more often than not. and if just the flash portion of the page is bugged, the whole thing is bugged.

[citation][nom]nukem950[/nom]We should also have an occupy acrobat reader too.Essentially it is the same thing: A program to standardize a product so that everyone has the same view. That and we are all being forced to use that too./sarcasm[/citation]

the difference is, reader is a decent program, that doesnt annoy me beyond the innitial "damnit now i have to start that program" reaction.

[citation][nom]DarCK[/nom]I find it ironic it takes a closed platform (iphone) to knock down another closed platform (flash). Seems to me the criticizers must be using flash in safari.Flash gave the internet a lot when the browsers didn't and in some ways still haven't come to a standard.I am just waiting for occupy-gate to be used for my brain to implode from the hijacking of terms.[/citation]

lets be fair here, its not just apple that is kicking adobe in the nads, its all mobile devices. as flash in benchmarks has been shown to slit the battery lifes thought.

its not just apple, because if it was, we would be laughing at them, its the fact that flash sucks battery life regardless that is killing it.

[citation][nom]phatboe[/nom]I'd rather see Occupy Direct X and occupy consoles so we can get some decent cross-platform gaming on the PC and Mac.[/citation]

opengl, as good as direct x 11 graphically, but preforms far better.
reason its not used, when it was picking up steam a while ago, microsoft came out with fud, and most devs went over to direct x, and the reason they are still there? they know how to use it better than opengl.

this part not directed at anyone

i dont want html 5, as much as i hate flash, its so easy to turn off, or just ignore flash content, but with html5, it seams it will be more of a chalange, and not a plugin, so when 5 crashes, it takes the browser with it, but when flash crashes, its just the plugin.

i would personally rather use a plugin based application like flash than one that isnt for multimedia like things, just for the fact that it is easy to ingnore/disable

imagine a website that incorporates html5, but one part is broken, so it spikes the processor, and freezes the browser. with flash, i can kill it in chrome and firefox outside of the browser, but html5?

[citation][nom]KonstantinDK[/nom]If we nt talk about video, but cartoons and games, flash still can do more than HTML5 if I'm not mistaken.[/citation]

EXACTLY !!!

flash si stil one of the golden standards in game design schools for teaching every thing from coding to general game production.

I got about 1-2 more years of school left in my game art design program , and thus far we have , used Unreal development kit , Unity , and flash in many classes. you can talk all teh smack you want about flash but it will live on untill school start teaching HTM 5 for games . which i jsut don't see happening becasue flash is so pwoerful for creating compelling game content .

this is stupid. tyrrany? derp.

flash is great ad heas gotten better every year. 3d. air. flex. I have always noticed that people who cannot properly program and script media think flash is "bad". There are bad uses for it, just like morons who would typeset 60 pages in adobe illustrator.

there are so many great functions you can use flash for, and the cross platform stability is great, if you actually test it when programming.

flash always sucked for banners. not to mention 10 banners per page. but html5 is much slower and resource hungry. it's great with some implementations in gaming and 3d, but very limited now. and forget trying to use it cross platform. it's a nightmare.

so instead of whining about flash, learn how to use it, not 2400px wide artwork you cant to preload 3 images of and animate 75% opacity with it while vector text is rendered and animated.

#derp

The people who think it's bad aren't the ones who program for it. They're the ones who visit too many porn sites with badly written flash apps that crash. Then they blame flash for being unstable because it interrupted their wanking session.

Flash is not dead, or should die .It is very useful for many things, but the problem is with its overuse . I can not agree with sites become dead if you choose to stop flash. The same is with javascript .They both are security risks, and then again many sites wont work without them.

[citation][nom]nukem950[/nom]We should also have an occupy acrobat reader too.Essentially it is the same thing: A program to standardize a product so that everyone has the same view. That and we are all being forced to use that too./sarcasm[/citation]PDF is (supposed to be) a standard, it's defined by the ISO (not by Adobe!) But Adobe tacks on proprietary "enhancements" that only Acrobat can read, resulting in PDF files that can't be read by standards-compliant readers.

It's fun how so many people here are defending flash as if they'll miss it when it's gone. It did things that nothing else could do for several years but we now have better technology that works on a wider variety of devices. It's healthy for technology to evolve as designers trim the fat. Flash isn't the worst thing in the world and it's not totally useless or anything, but we can do better now and we should. I'm sure we'll have a new "standard" to annoy us soon enough.

there's nothing wrong with flash. companies like apple and ms introduce their own version of as you write, crap, and we'll get used to it. the language is fine in 2 and 3 for real programming geeks (oop) and no html5 is not better....yet. when it is I'll have read and written tutorials and gone with it. remember how everyone thought firefox was such an "amazing" browser, and opera too? lolz.

go with it, and make a better platform. I think jquery is very nice for many things but flash is too. flash works fine in the future for iOS believe me, if you look on your project options, it is ios compatible as an air app.

trolls will be trolls.

I think I haven't had flash installed for over a year. The most annoying part of not having flash is that videos don't work in Steam and some YouTube videos aren't available in HTML5.

i think youtube is the only thign that keeps flash alive, since my main gripe with the ipad/iphone is not beeign able to watch youtube naturaly trough the flash plug in, but if youtube switches over to something else idont see flash living anymore
