[SOLVED] OC'd 4690k - Will not throttle back when load drops

4690K OC'd to 4.4ghz @ 1.165mv with a Cryorig H7 Lumi cooler.

Within th elast year, I had this CPU throttling back automatically when it was not under load. However, it's now running at 4.4 100% of the time.

Windows 10 - Power Settings is set to "Balanced";
Asrock Pro3 Z97 mobo - BIOS - SpeedStep is enabled along with Boost.

What am I missing?

Is it safe to assume you have the CPU multiplier (within BIOS) set to manual, and set to 44x?

If so,.....that's why.

In windows power options/balanced/advanced power settings/ processor power management/minimum processor rate , set the minimum cpu% to a lower number like 30%
You also need speedstep and adaptive voltage which I think you have already done.

yep...as geofelt said...it's likely the processor power state is set to 100 on the minimum when it needs to be below 30.
