OCed Pentium G3258 with Stock Cooler

Hey, im building a cheap HTPC-ish PC and im getting the G3258. Im planning to OC (maybe around 4.4-4.6ghz) it but to save some money, I was thinking of staying with the stock cooler. Can the stock cooler cool the OCed CPU? And also will it make alot of noise? Thanks 😀

You may not achieve that high of an O/C with just the stock cooler and yes it may be loud depending on how fast the fan needs to spin based on temps.

It's been reported on most review sites that I've read that you can get a decent mid-range OC with the stock cooler as the chip is not a hot running chip, and doesn't require much voltage increase to get big gains.

That being said, if you intend to max it out, you'll need an aftermarket cooler later.

Well if you go with the Bitfenix Prodigy they pretty much can support any aftermarket coolers including the Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 which is a great cooler for good price.

Cases are really a personal preference. Theres quite a bit to consider:

-How many fans are needed
-How big/small the case needs to be
-Cooling options for O/C
-Color
-If theres a power supply included
-Window/Windowless

Are the 212 EVO and 212X similar? And also Im planning to get noctua fans, can I add 1 more fan onto the cooler?

Both coolers are almost exactly the same so it doesn't matter. There are clips on the fan that hook onto the heatsink. I'm not 100% positive but from the looks of it you should be able to connect a 2nd fan onto the rear of the heatsink for a push-pull config although I don't think its needed. I had one on a AMD 965BE 3.4 X4 with stock clocks and the card stayed cool and quiet with that cooler.

By the time you pay 40 bucks in noctua fans and 30 bucks on a mid to low range cooler like the 212 evo, you're better off just spending 70 bucks on a Noctua nh-u14s or d14.
