"OcTel voice messaging system"

I am probably really butchering the spelling of this, but sometimes when I
dial my cellphone from my home phone (using only the 7 digits) I reach a
recording that sounds like "you have reached the 'OcTel' voice messaging
system, if you have a mailbox at this number, press # now", then it asks me
to enter the number of the mailbox (I entered my 10-digit number, and heard
my name). I'm guessing this would be a voicemail backdoor # if I only knew
why I reached it on occasion. Any ideas? I'm in Winston-Salem, NC. Anyone
know how I can figure out the number?

Thanks,

Janie

Chances are there's something wrong in the switch that serves your mobile
number. Usually when a call rolls to voicemail, the DID # (Direct inward
dial - the number you called) will get passed to the voicemail system. It
looks like from time to time, this isn't happening or the process fails
somehow in your case, and you end up with the general "welcome to" voicemail
greeting.

Many times the direct number for a voicemail system will be the area code
and first three digits of your number, and the last four digitals will be
6245 (spells 'MAIL'). But if VZW has disabled this feature, then chances
are you'll either get a number not in service message, or a live person at
the other end who has that number assigned to their phone.
