[citation][nom]mirkos[/nom]I believe that the average user wouldn't pay more than double whatever a usual drive cost. E.g. If a 200G disc cost 100$ He would pay 200$ for a SSD 200G. It's really nice to have high speed SSD but the cost must be relevant to the capacity and what most users can afford or are willing to pay. The good thing is that more SSD are coming out and the price are dropping. Soon we will be able to buy affordable 256GB SSD for OS and programs and we will have a second or external disc for data.Stay tunned!!!![/citation]

If SSD drive sizes keep increasing and prices falling, you can imagine that HDDs will be phased out within the next few years.

SSD's are coming along at a really brisk pace now. Glad to see all the fervor with this technology. 3.5" is a great idea if that results in better price/storage ratio.

"Four regular 500GB drives in RAID 0 with a good raid card will cost far less."

Raid0 for storage is just stupid.

I might pay $.50/Gb. I might drop $250 on a 512Gb SSD. It'd be nicer to see a drive this size, with good performance, come in at under $200.

[citation][nom]tipoo[/nom]I know, but they have always been an enthusiast product so it would make sence to have more desktop versions.[/citation]

Not all SSD's are "enthusiast" parts. Lots of laptops with them have cheap ones that aren't very fast nor do they have lots of storage, but they still use less power and are more reliable for a comparable price to HDD's.

Once again, really silly thing to say. Why would you need half a TB SSD? Just get a HDD for storage.

SSD are about performance, not capacity.
