Ok.
I have a Western Digital Hard drive 15 gig 5400 rpm.

Now the drive is brand new, 1 1/2 months old
and its starting to click click click on me

last night it went crazy and windows locked up
i powered down and waited a min
powered back up and click click click then was ok

then it keeps doing this once in a while now
...

but any ideas on what it could be
its a brand new motherboard...
brand new drive
and no idea here

cables are all in tight etc.

anyone know much about hard dirves why they click?

Just some advice from your friendly neighborhood blue man

I have only bought a WD once. I had the same problem, the drive was dead after a month of the clicking! Go buy a drive that doesn't suck! By the way why the hell did you buy a 5400rpm drive?

I just bought 3 Seagate Barricuda ATA III, they are awesome, quiet, fairly fast, run very cool!

I had Maxtor's before that no problems with them either(they were just a lil 2 loud 4 me)

Thankx
man

this is my 3rd WD hard drive in 6 months
all died from clicking....

Prior for WD i had 2 maxtor 7200 rpm drives
both died on me from bad sectors..
So i mean..

I dont know which brand to try now..

The only good hard drive i ever had was.. a samsung..
it was strong as a bull.

Any suggestions for a new drive?

NEVER BUY A WESTERN DIGITAL DRIVE!

BAD BAD BAD

I've got a 30 gig WD, had it for a year, no probs, but had a friends computer which had a bad one. It would do the same thing, click click click, I reformatted it, no more probs! That was a year ago, and it still works. I Think it might have been trying to access bad sectors, cause it happened after a power surge.

>this is my 3rd WD hard drive in 6 months

And yet you keep buying them???
a fair working definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing, expecting different results. (apologies to whoevers quotation I just butchered)

>Prior for WD i had 2 maxtor 7200 rpm drives

Dude, what are you doing to your computer???
3 HD failures in 6 months + 2 more over some other time frame. I haven't had that many drive failures in over 10 years of use.

Here is one clue...when the system is running, don't move the case, even a little. Jostle it the wrong way while the drive is accesing and you can really screw things up.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is.

Just a thought tbird, but why did you mount your PC on top of your washing machine? The spin cycle must be a *itch!!

I may be wrong :frown: ... but I'm not in doubt.
