I tried to like Office 2013. I really did. But it was just unusable, unnavigable tosh. Office 2010 isn't brilliant, either, but it's at least better, and I guess I'll stick with it.
Will office 2016 cost $200? If so, I won't buy it. Besides, I still prefer the old office where all of the most common actions aren't hidden behind a complicated series of vague tabs and abstract icons.
I tried Office 2013, but the white themed ribbon (that you can't change, unlike Office 2010) is just so very, very bright and flat. Office 2010 looks a whole better.
I reconcile "installed free" and being unsure about subscription cost by remembering that Microsoft recently started allowing mobile users basic editing functionality for free (with a subscription to unlock all features).
There are FREE alternatives ( Open Office, Libre Office, Google Docs etc) which gives you 99% MS Office functionality. Why pay for it if you don't have to?
Went from 2003 to 2010 and happy with it. No reason to update unless they make it something like the 2003 to 2007 incompatibility problem with the x at the end of the file type. Maybe they would put something like .docxl Otherwise it will rune office docs from future Office no problem.
Everything after Office 2007 in my opinion is bad. To be honest I don't even have need for Office, LibreOffice being free is more than what I need and it is FREE.
"The best MS Office was Office 2003. After that...RIP Office. Sorry MS. "
Nope nope nope. My job is pretty much 100% Excel and Outlook based. I use Office 2010 and it's vastly, vastly better than 2003. I could probably tolerate Outlook 2003 if I had to, but it would be basically impossible for me to move back to Excel 2003 with the huge number of features I'd be missing.
I am still using Office 2007 Ultimate I bought from MS Ultimate Steal (student discount). It is more than enough for me as I don't have the need to make complicated office documents. I also use Google Doc if I am on the run. And I stopped using Outlook 2007 after I got my Android phone (gmail) because it is annoying to keep syncing between my google contacts/calendar/keep(notes) to Outlooks. I really don't see the need to keep my Office suite up to date.
