There's a guy who is selling a 6700k for about $80 less than the price of a new one, problem is I don't know if is it a good idea to buy an used unlocked processor, second thing is I'm currently waiting for a promo which is coming in about 10 days in my country in order to buy the other parts so I wouldn't have a way to test if the processor works. Third is the price, I don't know if the asking price is good.

I'd be wary of it. There's no real good reason to sell a brand new top of the line cpu, or I should say few good reasons. No warranty and with no way to test it no way to know. Poor overclocker, damaged from overclocking, damaged from installing improperly. It's a big gamble in my opinion. It's not even like it's a 4790k and the user could very well be selling it off to upgrade to the latest 6700k.

If it works and works well without any issues the asking price is great if it's $80 less than retail. If it's broke or has issues then it's a terrible price for a paperweight.

i think it's too big of an investment to risk it.

Thanks, he says he's selling it because he's going to travel, told him that will contact him after may 30 which is probably the day I'll buy the rest of the components in amazon.

Personally when it comes to buying new parts, I'd much rather buy them brand new from a seller than used from elsewhere. Reason being, if anything went wrong then you can send it back. With him saying he's going 'to travel', that may be true, but could also be a lie. As others have said, too much of a risk. You don't know what that chip has been through.

I'd pay the extra amount myself, knowing I can return it if anything was wrong with it I could send it back.
