I bought Windows 10 oem by mistake,
Is it illegal to use on my own build or should I send it back and get retail.

Solution

It's just that I have been told before that I can only install Windows 10 if I build and sell PCs. I had Windows 7 oem on a build I bought and could clean install with the disc all the time, will I be able to do this with Windows 10 oem , I got a disc with it. Just don't want to get banned from Windows and have to get retail and waste money , or even worse sued.

my friend has formatted and installed windows 10 oem.
it's not an issue when it's installed on the same computer!

Hi

The only disadvantage of OEM System builder version of Windows is that if you replace the motherboard you will need to buy a new copy of Windows.

(You cant transfer OEM Widows to a new PC, unless Microsoft support staff issue a new key which they occasionally do if the motherboard dies)

I am so confused, I have read Microsoft terms on Windows 10 oem and it says you can not install oem version for personal use . Think I might just send it back. Not saying you are wrong but just don't like to waste money, if I open the oem package then can't send it back.

you are mismatching consumer oem with manufacturer's oem.. But do what you feel good. that is the best solution and 100% satisfaction mentally..

Ok . I see now, I bought it from scan along with parts to build a pc myself, so that is totally different to the terms I have been reading on microsoft. They know how to confuse people.
I do worry over things a bit to much, which has made the whole thing blow my mind.
