soon it will be "hmm i wonder how much that toaster can be overclocked" 😛

this guy is right i have been seriously thinking about overclocking my calculator.

I also have a set of guages that are used to fill and adjust pressue in an air conditioning unit so that during the summer I can keep my ac running at its best or coldest just for my pc.

back on topic though 200mhz will be fine on a stock cooler my 3500+ ran at 50c many times while gameing on stock cooling. so man just go into the bios and up the htt (more likely labeled fsb in bios) a cupple mhz and thats all you need to do nothing more. However Ill tell you that that wont help the FEAR FPS a whole lot, if you want more fps the best way to do it is oc the video card.

ahh you just posted while I was typing that last one. what you need to do is leave that multiplyer at 11 then bump up the bus speed to 220mhz so you will now have 220*11=2420mhz cpu clock.

that’s it, you should be able to do that 20mhz in one jump but to be safe set it to 210 then boot the pc see if all is fine then go back and up it to 220.

also google prime 95 its a program that stress test a pc for stability, run that thing over night one night to see if you have stability. you should have no problem but there ya go

to start, just try the asus A.I. oc. You can set a % and try it out. It takes alot of the worry out of it. Granted, it is overly simplistic for any higher oc's than what you are talking, but to start it gives you a secure and simple way to see what your temps are w/ a slight oc. probably 10% would put you in the ballpark for what you are wanting, but try 5% first to test for stability.

Once you are stable doing that, then if you want to get serious about oc'ing you can start researching out what to change and then get the aftermarket cooler.

you posted while i was writing... did not mean to sound contradictory.

you are right, and those #s would work. I was just trying to give him something even more simple. 😉

and yes, prime95 is a great stability check.

Alright guys, im actually amazed at how simple that is :) Okay so im going to go ahead and set the bus speed to 220mhz (210 first) and hope to high heavens that it boots :) Ill wait a couple a mins before i go into BIOS just incase you guys have anything else important to add bfore i start. thanks guys.

Okay all done successfully! My first Overclock :) So its at 2.4Ghz now and running stable. CPU idles at 30C (acc. to the BIOS) which is no more than bfore i OC'd! I ran my games and my framerates have gone up quite reasonably actually! and no crashes or freeze ups at all so everythings definately stable. I so glad this has worked out! Thanks for talking me through it guys!

See, and no billowing clouds of smoke rolling out of your case. Yet. J/K

lol, my first OC, I had to run out of the room and ask someone else to see if it booted, but that was a while ago...I can see that CPU at ~2.8 with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. That mobo and this fan were built for each other, the fan blows the hot air right out the computer, not around in it. And this Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is cheap as he!!, like $30, and has some of the best performance to come out of a HS/F.

Oooh 2.8Ghz i like the sound of that! Someone said back a page that OCing is addictive.... hes definately right about that :) That cooler you mentioned seems good but i cant find it on the site (only place available to me) which i always buy off so i will have look at other coolers. On that note though, if i will be saving 100s by OCing then i dont really mind spending money on a med-high quality CPU cooler so when im ready to OC again ill do a bit of browsing for CPU coolers.

addictive? lol... oc'ing comps has alot in common w/ hot rodding cars. Just getting that last "extra" (if there is such a thing) horse power or Mhz is like a crack addict getting that "last" fix.

"Honest", you keep telling yourself, "this is the last tweak before it is finally done. After this I will not do any more."

You say that before buying the new water cooling rig that enables higher ceilings then you ever thought possible... triggering a chain of unexplored mods and clocks thus consuming you and creating that crazed tweaker look that so many modders/hotrodders/sky divers/drug addicts have.

see what you have to look forward to? lol 😉

Aw, well it is all right. How about the Tuniq Tower 120? It is more expensive, maybe too much, but it is quiet and very powerful! If not, the Zalmans are still good, albiet slightly overpriced. Addictive is an understatment, lifestyle may be more fitting 😀

Hey, its me complaining again :) dont worry this is the last thing...i mean it. Yeah its just that i noticed that my RAM timings/settings in the BIOS have changed since i OCed :? They have been made slower. Just two settings, Row Cycle Time - from previous 11 to 16 and the R. Refresh time from 13 to 18.... Every thing else is the same. Question is, can i set them back to normal or do they have to stay as they are??

Well, did you change the timings? Did an ASUS utility do it? I mean, those are big jumps in latency...You could try to tighten them, but the ASUS utility might've done it for system stability, though it seems overkill. Hmm..Tough call, I'd wait for someone more knowledable to respond before changing them, but I don't see the harm.

~Ibrahim~

you can set them back, but as speeds increase it is harder for the ram to maintain the same timings. Thus, if you notice instability then put them where they are now. If not then run them on the faster settings w/ no worries.

something you might want to try is a program called deepfreeze. It (as the name implies) freezes the computer into a certian state so that if your games start to lag or you get a virus etc. you can just reboot the computer and it reloads just like a fresh install of windows ( with all the games you installed before you froze it). Im not sure how much it costs, right now im "borrowing" a copy of it from my school, but I'm sure itt can't be too much for a program like that.

From the start button -> Run -> msconfig

Select startup - and see what programs are being enabled.
has a check mark

If you ever do a clean build - see what it look like then.

If you turn any off - it will ask u to do a restart -

After u do a restart - check again - They sometimes come back - using
a different name - If problem persists - I usually do a clean build then.

Hi,
I'll repeat this once more. The A8N-SLI Premium must be configured manually in the BIOS regarding the RAM and the PROC.
Should you decide that you want to use AI NOS and OC w/ the ASUS software then the settings will be all over the place.

How is your NEW BIOS doing? Did you configure it according to the instructions I gave you?
