Hi all. I built a custom pc recently and encountered problem after a few days of use. Now windows installation would hang up at the logo and never proceed. Technicians have suggested RAM test so I ran memtest86+ on my RAM, which is 4-5 days old, and indeed there were errors associated with test 7 block move. I asked for a replacement and I put it on the motherboard but installation problem still exist. Just out of my curiosity I ran the memtest86+ again. Surprisingly the errors still came up in the same test 7 and the failing address is almost the same. Failing address is 0.0MB. Could anyone suggest what does this imply? Does that indicate CPU or mobo problem? Thank you.

System spec:
CPU:i7-7700k @ 4.2GHz
Motherboard: MSI Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON
RAM: Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15R Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz CL15 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory
VGA: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 GAMING

Thanks a lot in advance!

Try installing your ram on different slots and test again. If it pass this time it's likely your motherboard has damaged one of the ram slots. If it still fails you are either unlucky and have gotten a new faulty ram stick or the memory controller in your cpu is faulty meaning you have a faulty cpu.

Agreed, follow Kasper Jorgensen's recommendation, but also try 1 module at a time in case one of the two modules is bad. I'd also try resetting the CMOS just to ensure everything is set to default.

If the modules do turn out to be faulty, you can setup a support ticket through our website and we can have the kit replaced.

Hi all. Thank you for your suggestions. Besides my extensive troubleshooting I also sent my desktop to two IT specialists, who in the end could do nothing about this other than shaking their heads and say ''Most likely to be the motherboard''. So I just bought a new motherboard but when I put it up the problem still exists. Now that I have changed RAM and motherboard it is time to suspect the CPU, which is the only thing that has not been replaced so far. Previously when I searched for the error bits in my memtest results and I did find a discussion online: http://www.sweclockers.com/forum/trad/1386358-ny-dator-i7-6700k-msi-moderkort-random-bsod-omstart. It is surprising that their errors were unanimously same to the ones I had and they recognized that this is due to damage to CPU, probably due to static charges during handling. Since my desktop actually worked for a few days I did not think that CPU could have been damaged somehow. I should receive the replacement CPU in a few days and I shall keep you guys posted about this.
