i just finished building my computer. it consists of an:
abit kx7-333r mb, 1800 athlon xp, ibm 80gb 7200rpm hdd, 256 2700 ddr ram, and a 32x cd rom.

I tried using an old video card from a 2 year old compaq.(the card is made by nvidia, thats all i know about it) I need it so i can have the monitor out(dvi out i think its called). so i put the card in and when i boot up my computer the monitor flashes once or twice, but the screen just stays black after that. After that i tried a different monitor and when i boot my computer up the screen just stays black. So i was wondering if there is a compatibility problem or is it a problem with something else. There arent any noises coming from the motherboard speaker either.

I think the video card should boot, no matter how old it is, i´ve tested new systems like athlon XP 1800 and a 8k3a+ mobo with an old 2mb s3, pci and it worked perfectly.
did you check your video card in another system to see if it works? also try loading the fail-safe settings in your mobo bios.

The card does work with the old compaq. And I cant get to the bios without the monitor out. So i guess the problem is something else.

You might have a problem if the card is AGP. The old AGP 1x cards may not be compatable with the 2x(3.3v)/4x(1.5v) port on the Abit motherboard. (As a guess)

McEwin.

thats what i hope it is, because it is an agp card.

thanks for your help nonetheless
