[SOLVED] Old CPU with a new GPU

I recently got gifted a new GPU for an old computer that I have, the problem is that my CPU (AMD Phenom II X4 965) its very old, so I fear is going to end up ruining the CPU or worse the GPU (Geforce GTX 1660 Super Gaming X)

How bad is the bottleneck going to be? I intend to use for gaming, streaming and a bit of work.

Thanks! That seems like a good place to start building.
Currently my motherboard only support AM3 cpu (GA-880GM-UD2H) and I have 16 GB of ram with a good amount of space. Sadly now with quarentine everything is closed in my location, do you think if I overclock it will I have able to just do the gaming? Should I even replace the motherboard or find another AM3 proccesor?

I wouldn't spend too much on anything for that CPU. if you look on eBay you can find used Phenom II X4 980 for between 20-40 USD.

Again you really need a new Mobo, CPU and RAM.

The new card will improve your experience, but only up to a point, where the CPU becomes the thing that holds you back.

I would not invest any more money in the AM3 platform. As @richiestang_78 said, it's really best to go with a new MB, RAM, and CPU. Probably also power supply, depending on the age and exact brand and model of your existing one.

Yep, so install it and enjoy the improved performance. If your current system can't do what you want, you know you can take the card to a new system so no worries.

I don't think that it will work. If your CPU is of high quality with latest processor then it will work. Otherwise, your GPU will not work essential.

This is incorrect. 'High quality latest processor' has nothing to do with it. As long as the bios supports the card and vice-versa, it will work.
