so my family wanted me to recover some photos on a windows xp computer since it was covered in viruses and couldnt boot, so my best course of action was just to pull out the hdd and boot it as a second drive on a different computer and clean it that way.
Slight issue with that though, the hdd uses a ide cable (i think thats what its called)
looks like this: http://www.stuartconnections.com/12846-thickbox/Western-Digital-160GB-8MB-Cache-7200RPM-PATA-IDE-Hard-Drive-35inch-WD1600JB-7U487.jpg
I have 1 question, the 8 pin next to it (with the white plug) I assume thats power, it would be fine if I just used molex right?
If so thats all I want to know because I was thinking about buying this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232004 and just giving it power through molex

Solution
The drive's power is the Molex connector on the far end. The small pin section in between is for setting jumpers on those old IDE drive. So just plug a Molex into that end section.
As for the IDE to SATA adapter, I've never used one, but heard they work. It appears that the adapter/converter requires power from (what looks like) a floppy power connector. Most Molex daisy chains have one. You can download the manual for the device here if you haven't already.
