I've been on the forums for a while now and still haven't found a solution. My old hard drive died/is on the brink of death so I just bought a new one. Both Seagate, both SATA, same ports. I replaced the old with the new and... the new drive isn't showing up in the boot order/BIOS. Can't boot the PC at all. Help?

Solution

It's not "bootable", because there is no OS on it. And it can't appear in the BIOS boot order until you install an OS on it.

So what OS are you going to install on it? What Windows version do you have the license key for?
If the new one doesnt work in the same port as the old one, it maybe faulty. Try another port

Or try another sata cable and / or power cable. If the BIOS cant see it I would say this is the prob

But, if the bios can't see the new hdd you cant install windows on it. So, it wont boot at all

Since a new hdd is empty. Whats the mobo? And what hdd did you get?

Changing up SATA and power cables does nothing, the SATA cables tested were all connected and displaying properly. The HDD doesn't display regardless.
The new HDD is a Seagate SkyHawk 2 TB ST2000VX008. I had a Barracuda from Seagate before, the SkyHawk was the only drive available to me.
Motherboard is a Gigabyte X79-UD3. It's running on BIOS version F18 which is apparently outdated (who knows, that could cause problems) but I'm not exactly keen on flashing it.

Im just going to return it to the store, I guess it works out haha. I use the PC for gaming and a surveillance drive.. well.. I guess the fact that it's dead is good! I know the cables are working and I don't waste my money.

Ahhh well I'm dumb. I've got a working windows key and a USB to install windows from. Well I guess I just wasted my money. Heck. (In my defence the sales guy didn't tell me what kind of hard drive it was ugh I'm so dUMB)
I'll try installing the OS tomorrow, pretty mad at myself ngl..
