Old HDD has windows 7

But my current computer has Windows 8. Old drive is a 3.5" 750GB and the new computer is a laptop, I know I would need something like this http:// to use the 3.5" at all. Is there any way I can take 7 from the old and install it on the new?

Burn to DVD, install and activate.

Unfortunately I don't think I still have the activation key. Would there be any way to recover it?
