So, I've got an old 80 gig HDD from WD, it was used in my previous pc from around 2008 I think, if not sooner. It had it's motor chip burned and since 2012 I think I didn't do anything to solve it, recently I got really curious and went on youtube to see if it's a pain in the ass to change it's circuit board and as I saw it only needed a matching board + moving the old BIOS chip onto the new one. I've ordered a matching board, recently arrived and moved the Bios chip without a problem, got an external USB Drive box to connect it to, since my actual setup has only SATA connections, all good. HDD was spinning, but it made some repeating clicking sounds, like it read the same portion again and again, was detected in Windows, but could've not access it. No size appeared under the partition and I started searching again, only to see that a "Chkdsk /f /r" could resolve the issue. And then the fun happened. It showed around 999h until completion on the 80Gb hdd.[I should specify that I do not have a jumper set to slave mode, I've got no jumpers here at all]. So I waited, after a few hours it showed that there is progress, it read the files, I could see filenames and folders being read but it gave two errors "File could not be repaired because there is not enough free space" and after each file that it read, something like "A disk read error occuredc0000185". Ok, I thought that it's because of the jumper not being there. After 2 days though it was only at 6% progress... and I chose to end it. I pulled the USB cable and ended the task. Not it recognizes the drive but only 37Gb. Still no partitions and I can't even create one, it shows Write protected and just freezes the progress when I'm creating and applying a partition in Partition Master. Is there any way to save the drive though? Maybe some of you guys have had the same issue and can help me in the right way to save this old buddy of mine.
