I'm running Windows 8.1
My keyboard failed so I went back to the one I was using 8 months ago. Now there is a very long delay. Like many minutes, before the very first boot screen shows up. This keyboard is the old kind with an adapter to plug into USB. I know I'm a dinosaur but I'm getting a replacement keyboard under warranty but I need to use this computer in the mean time. During this long delay, the disk light doesn't even flash. any ideas?

Well, I think I fixed it. Normally this is where a guy might start listing all the things he tried but I have sympathy for everybody so I will skip all that, It won't help anyway. ;-)

It seems the PS2 keyboard with USB adapter didn't like being plugged in a USB hub. It needs to be plugged into a USB port on the computer. Either the front panel or back panel.

If it is in the USB hub the 'puter hangs before the POST. I found that by using my faulty USB KBD (in the hub) to change the POST delay from "None" to 5 seconds. That brought up a screen where I could see the pre-POST wait which lasts forever if the PS2 KBD is in the hub.

Thanks for putting up with me,

This thread may be useful for the rare case that some dinosaur is still using a PS2 KBD with a USB adapter on a hub.

This is the last dinosaur signing off.
