Old Laptop Won't startup

The problem is that when I start my old laptop right so that 'compaq' screen appears and bios intialising intel and then when i see 'windows xp is starting up' its just going forever.I can move my mouse but that really cant't help.I've also triee going into safe mode , but it's all the same story again.If anyone could help I would appreciate that.Btw it's Compaq Armada e500 laptop

sounds like maybe your windows is corrupted or your hard drive has an issue, but considering the Compaq E500 is a Pentium III 650mhz computer, a boot time of several minutes would be to be expected... I would say up to 10 mins easy

I think the OP may be saying that Windows never gets to the desktop, not that it just takes a long time to get there.

Well I ran it a few times and now it works like a charm.
