Old SLI or newer cheaper parts?

Long story short I had to sell my system to pay off a bill with high interest. In the meantime I'm borrowing a system but it's not very good (Q6600/4gb/750 ti) and struggles with some of my games so I'll be saving up around $500 in September. My options are pretty limited as I could probably get a 8100/8gb/GTX 1050 (2/3gb) for that cost.

Fortunately though I have a awesome uncle who has given my 3-EVGA GTX 550 ti 2gb for free :D so I'm thinking of using the $500 to get a much better CPU. I'm thinking of going with the 2600/Gigabyte X470 Ultra and use two of the cards in SLI (I know SLI support is lacking but it's better then nothing). I don't need anything crazy for a graphic card as I'm currently gaming at 1440x900/60hz. This would be temporary until Nvidia releases there RTX mid-low range GPUs.

Solution
I mean a 4 generation gap is pretty big. If it was a 950 or even 750 it might be a lot closer but 550 is a long ways away.

Might be worth using for now and saving some money to buy a better system overall.
