Hey guys,
So recently I had my PC die on me, and I intend to build a newer PC with the same drives (Samsung 840 Pro 256GB as C:, WD Black 2TB as storage), pretty much verifying that it has something to do with the motherboard/BIOS.
Old system specs:
i7-4770K
Asus Maximus VI Formula Z87
Noctua NH-D14
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GN (2x8GB) 1866mhz
Asus GTX 780 DCII
Corsair AX1200i
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (C: )
WD Black 2TB ( Data E: )
My old system runs on an i7-4770K and Z87 chipset, but the new system I intend to build with will have an i7-7700K with a Z270 chipset. With such a major leap in the chipset, am I able to still use my old SSD as my boot drive with the old keys I had (just plug and play, then reinstalling Windows if I can boot into WIndows), or do I need to purchase a new Windows 10 since I've heard that Windows is tied to the motherboard on which its installed?
. Note, I also upgraded from 8.1 Home to 10 prior to my PC's death.
Also, will plugging in the old SSD into the new system and starting up for the first time, cause a prompt to install a new version of Windows and wipe the SSD automatically?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.
