Old Timer Gaming Question

I haven't played Warhammer 40K in at least five years. Before relocating so
long ago I traded my completed 40K Space Marine Army for four epic boxed
sets, extra miniatures and an epic Titan boxed set.

Still have them all packed away. Is EPIC gone from Game Workshop? I haven't
noticed it in any of the magazines I saw on the store shelves and became
curious.

Not a bad trade, if you're really into Epic more than 40k.

Epic has been renamed Epic Armageddon, has been reworked, and is now
available for free download on GW's Specialist Games website--you can find
it at http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/default.htm. Personally, I like
this move by GW. They've taken their non-core games that they used to just
trot out every couple of years (like Blood Bowl and Epic, plus Mordheim,
Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic, Warmaster, and Inquisitor) and are releasing
the rules for free, incorporating a lot more public commentary as they're
developing and playtesting the rules, and are still going to make some money
through mail order (which is the only way to get Epic models these days).
It's a good move to make, IMO.

As far as the new ruleset goes, we've played them a few times and I think
they're not bad at all. Much better than the last version of Epic, anyway.
Give it a shot. Even if no one else around you is already playing, the lure
of free rules is a lot to resist sometimes, especially when you can lend
them models to use (and it sounds like you've got plenty).

well, yes and no. there IS still an epic ruleset, and a limited (although
slowly expanding) epic miniatures range - but you can't buy any of it in
stores, and it's no longer supported in White Dwarf. you can get some ideas
about its "modern" form at http://www.specialist-games.com/epic/default.htm
, but what it boils down to is that new epic stuff will only be covered in
the Fanatic magazine and you can only get epic figures through mail order.

Sort of yes and sort of no. Epic's current incarnation is Epic:
Armageddon. Its been shuffled off the main GW listings to their subsidiary
section called Specialist Games. If you look in the olnine store under
that heading you will find it and can mail order it. The stores don't
generally (possibly not at all) carry it.

So they make and sell it but its not run through the main storefront and
so its a bit more invisible.
