Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my trusty old Dell U2412M. Since I buy a monitor every 10 or so years, I'm OK with spending more. I'm looking at OLEDs, 1440p, 27", and newer models that (from what I read) has a better chance of avoiding burn-in and lasting 10 years.
I'm a bit worried about reflections. I went to look at OLED monitors (pretty hard, most of them are online order only), and I found a Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 and a G6 somewhere on display.
The G9, according to reviews "The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 has incredible reflection handling." - rtings.com; "reflection handling is reasonable" - techspot.com etc.
When I sat down to check it out, I could literally see my reflection. I could have shaved in that thing.
I accept that the window behind me will cause a lighter spot on screen. I do not accept being able to see my nose-hairs in the reflection on screen.
Soo, help me out here: I used to avoid glossy monitors like the plague, but maybe technology has advanced, and "anti reflective coatings" actually do work. Is this the case and the G9 is just a bad apple, or is glossy still only for basement-dwellers and people who are willing to make the room pitch black when they are using the computer?
Is there a trustworthy review site? Unfortunately, Oled monitors are not on display, at least here in Central EU, so I'd have to shop mostly blind. (Yes I can send it back if I don't like it, but I'd rather not go through the hassle.)
Thanks!
