Omega Drivers (Cat 3.5 based); NO MORE FOR NV !!!

Well the new <A HREF="http://www.omegacorner.com/" target="_new">Omega Drivers</A> (version 2.4.60 for 2K/XP and 2.6.09 for 98/ME) have arrived for those who have been waiting for them. They are the NEW ones based on the CAT 3.5s
If you don't know what the Omega Drivers are then read the <A HREF="http://www.omegacorner.com/readme_omega_drivers.txt" target="_new">readme file</A>, and if you don't know about them already, probably best to put them off for a bit, don't confuse yourself any more than necessary.

For those of you already using RadClocker/Radlinker or Rage3Dtweak, you might want to give these a look (but be sure you can restore your old setup).

<b>Be Careful,</b> it's a driver upgrade/change so if you don't know what you're doing, just plain DON'T!

For you Nvidia folk there are also SOME Omegas there for you but I don't know their maturity/freshness;

<b>HOWEVER</b> read about <A HREF="http://www.omegacorner.com/" target="_new"><b>What <font color=green>Nvidia</font color=green>'s lawyers DID</b></A> and see what YOU think?

Check the first page. Freakin' Brutal!
Talk about Bullying your Fan-base!

Go to the Driver Haven link if you want what will likely be the last batch of Omega Nvidia drivers.

I'd think that would be the least of Nvidia's worries right now...

Too bad he didn't ask Nvidia's attorney about all the cheating while he had a real representative of them of the phone...

Hot, I'm gonna try em out.

Grape, on the ATI driver page it says "PLEASE DO NOT LINK TO THIS PAGE, LINK TO THE MAIN PAGE!"

You didn't listen. You're doing the work of nVidia (read: The Devil)!!!

HERES THE LINK HE SHOULD HAVE POSTED:

i got the Omega drivers for my TI4200 i just bought

ill tell you , its the oNLY thing that saved this card.

finally im gettin performance equal or better to my 8500le.. and the quality option when you install DRASICALLY improved image quality over Nvidia default

these drivers make Nvidia cards work so much better .its stupid of them to stop Omega from making them anymore

Omega is one of the original Catalyst beta testers, and is pretty much in cahoots with ATi anyways. They work with Omega and try to help him out. ATi figures that the more options that Radeon users have, as far as drivers are concerned, the better it will be for the end-user. nVIDIA probably doesnt want anything to do with anyone who has such close ties to ATi. Plus....reverse engineering drivers is illegal, and that exactly what Omega does.

The guy himself wrote he didn't do reverse engineering, it was all tweaking as any of us would do, but deeper and better, bundled and then sent to us.

Eden, he takes drivers from IHV's, changes them, repacks them into an executable, and puts them up for grabs on his site. If what he was doing wasnt illegal, he could just tell nVIDIA to go screw themselves. But he isnt, he's complying. You dont have to call it reverse engineering if you dont want to, but it still is..

Has anyone had issues trying to bench with 3DMark03 or 2001 after installing the omega 3.5's?
All my 3D apps work just fine, but none of my 3DMark bench apps will run.

Isn't reverse engineering studying what something does then designing something else to exactly mimic the original all without diseminating the original.

Sometimes, the dry definition is just engineering something backwards to see how it works, but many times people do that for emulation, which is basically how all console emulators start form

The problem with console emulation is at some point some of the basic code is stolen, making the product illegal.

The distinction of true reverse engineering is that it is a LEGAL practice.

Take PC BIOSes for example. In the early days there was just IBM. Compaq reverse engineered their 386 BIOS, no longer wanting to license a BIOS from IBM. One team examined the BIOS and took notes. A second team used this information and reproduced the functionality of the BIOS with their own unique code. The second team never saw the actual code of the IBM's BIOS and could not be accused of diseminating or stealing code.

IBM challenged this in court but Compaq's right to reverse engineer was upheld.

Later other companies like Phoenix, AMI, Award did the same thing except they licensed the BIOSes to computer manufacturers.

There never would be clone PCs if it weren't for reverse engineering.

As far as I'm concerned it's only reverse engineering if you pull apart and rewrite the code. I'm fairly certain a good lawyer could make the same argument.

Putting file A with file B, without changing the contents of those files, does not qualify as reverse engineering. Adding registry tweaks without even opening the driver files themselves does not qualify as reverse engineering. In fact, anything you do without opening those files and analysing the data is not reverse engineering.

first: reverse enginering happens in all big companies to know more about what the others do..

second: reverse enginering actually MEANS to read the original dll, trying to recreate the original source-code. that is, depending on the dll / exe / lib, illegal. in case of the nvidia driver for example, it is.

studying, measuring, and checking the original dll without touching its internals is always legal. it is not reverse enginering. the term is quite well defined, and is not about finding out what the dll does. its about getting the source out of the dll.

its like: he listens to an mp3 file to analize it. reverse enginering would be reconverting it back into a wav file to analize it.

Ooops, yep, I was lazy. I DID post links to all 3 (Main, ATI, andReadme), but I simply posted to the ATI link out of habit (it's a bookmark for me) and forgot about that. I could have posted a link to DriverHaven, but I wanted to direct people to his site. Oh well, it happens. Although I DID include the main page in my 'lawyer' link, but shoulda made it the main link.

I will go back and edit.

This Story has NOW made <A HREF="http://www.hardocp.com/" target="_new">[H]ard|OCP</A>'s News as of 2:15pm CDT (3:15 Eastern), check front/intro page (you may need to scroll down by now). Seems like this may become a bigger story as people pick up on it. I wonder if THG will add it to their NEWS as it was HERE before it was at [H].

Still think it sucks and looks like now that [H] picked up the story NV is trying to figure out how to spin it. Wait and see what the 'official' word is.

Lately, I've started to feel a loss of open-mindedness in the graphic cards industry. nVidia is testing on my nerves a lot now and I am starting to truly want their demise.
NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has come out lately that was half-decent or half-honest, or anything that puts them on a more respectable note. Nothing but denial after denial.

Testing my nerves...

Hey, its good to see that nVidia is still acting very mature. Ive been reading up on these guys and its good to see them responding so well to the pressure put on them by our friends at ATI. Maybe they are jealous because omega can make better image quality than them. Oh well, maybe we can send them a huge hate mail signed by all of us, courtesy of toms hardware community.

Mature? You're joking, right? I think nVidia is acting like a 7th grader after his friends called him gay.

Tit for tat, butter for fat, ATi's dog kicks nVidia's cat

Err I wouldn't look at it this way.
The victim is more likely, in your example, to feel bad and simply try to avoid the harsh criticism (if that is what the insult intended).

And yeah, MATURE? HANDLED PRETTY WELL? BigBiggist smoked some big nVidia green to come up with that!

Oh man, tough crowd guys. C'mon im bein sarcastic!!!
Hmmmm......i have to work on my typing sarcastically skills.
We should have a code for sarcastic so we dont get confused. Basically im saying that nVidia needs to grow up. And i bet they were jealous of the better image quality omega had.

And there is no green on the face of this planet to get someone doped up enough to not see what nVidia is doing.
