What is a good choice for a great gpu 1 gtx 970 with 4 gb of vram or 2 r9 390/390x with 8 gb of vram each?

It will depend on the motherboard and the CPU. Does your board support CF? Does it do CF at x8, x8 lanes or better? Will your CPU bottleneck the dual 390/390X's? What resolution is your monitor? Does your PSU have the +12V rail specs to support 2 x 250W/300W cards?
