Question One of my drives crashed. Can I recover any data? How to go about it?

This is how the pro tools handle this problem:

Western Digital hard drive data recovery: weak heads, slow responding + heads swap:

Note that even though the "slow responding" fix was applied, head #3 was too far gone to read anything. The operator then switched off this head and cloned all the others. He then replaced the headstack and cloned head #3 on its own. Obviously, this is not a DIY proposition.

Here is another pro tool, but this time the drive is an SMR model with a "slow issue":
