One of my RAM sticks is randomly being undetected

I have 2 x 4GBs of RAM and 99% of the time, they are both picked up. Today when I went to update my GPU drivers I saw the "My Rig" page on Nvidia GeForce Experience. I noticed that it detected that I have 8GBs of RAM but it said only 3.97GBs was usable. I'm used to seeing something like 7.97GBs usable (or around that margin) and it has only picked up 4GBs. This has happened previously and after two reboots, nothing changed. I then opened up my PC changed which RAM slot each of them were in. I have a total of 4 RAM slots and both were in the grey ones. By simply moving both to the black ones I fixed the problem. Today it has happened again but I certainly do not recall ever changing where they were inserted. My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P AMD 970 ATX and I have 2 sticks of 4GB DDR3 (1600MHz) Crucial Ballistix Sport Memory. Could anyone suggest why this has happened for the second time and how I could fix it?

Sounds like a bug in that software, if it was truly losing connection to the ram it would crash pc as it relies on at least two cards inserted in dual channel to work the pc. though you can switch it in bios to run single channel ram using one card

Thing is, task manager also says that 8GB of RAM is there but 4GBs is usable...

my task manager says 16gb total physical memory 11878 available and windows using 4gb. So it only gives usable ram that is leftover

MSCONFIG>BOOT>ADVANCED>UNCLICK THE MAXIMUM MEMORY OPTION

Go in resource monitor, select memory and check the physical memory bar. What does it say where it says "installed" below the memory bar?
