So my monitor died, I have a budget of $200-$300, a GTX 760 (old rig all around) and I won't be upgrading other components. I'm debating going to 144hz monitor as I play twitch shooters mostly like CSGO, The Division, Overwatch, etc. I also play other games like MMO's and enjoy high quality picture for videos, so still considering a 1080p IPS monitor...need advice...

I'm leaning in the 144hz direction, are either of these a good buy? Or is there something better?

AOC G2770PQU 144hz 27inch
or

Asus VG248QE 24 inch

My Specs:
CPU - Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.8GHz
Mobo - ASUS P6T SE (Second Edition, not the P6T, so a little worse, not to mention old)
RAM - 2x4gb DD3 Corsair RAM in dual channel (Unlocked XMP setting in BIOS to run at 1600Mhx)
PSU - Corsair HX750 (750 watt)
GPU - GTX 760

Thanks!

depending on the settings you play that 760 card wont be able to push 144fps in most scenarios. For your build i would suggest a really good 1080p 60hz monitor unless you want to upgrade gpu, hope this helps somewhat

Thanks for the response. I'm aware that i won't be pushing 144 often, but i just hear so many people say "once you go 144hz you never go back to 60hz" so i figured i'd still feel a tangable difference. I dont think its worth putting more money into this old rig with a better GPU - prolly better off saving for a new one to build in a year or 2...

So really a waste of my money to go 144hz on my current build? Any suggestions for "really good 1080p 60hz monitors"?

Thanks again.

instead of getting a whole new build you could just upgrade you main components?cpu, mobo, etc if not a good 1080p monitor is the asus VX278N,good features,1ms repsonse time.

your other option is to get a cheap monitor for now and put that money towards cpu, mobo and gpu upgrades to take advantage of that super 144hz feature that you want,PSU and storage is fine and ram is too depending on what platform you decide to go to,if you upgrade to skylake you will need ddr4 unless you go for the lower end models that support ddr3

Gotcha, thanks so much for the input. 1080p for now it is, I'll check out the ASUS one you linked. Thanks for the help.
