Online game lag

About 5 or so days ago I logged into Black Desert online to play like I normally do only to find that my character and the game were lagging every few seconds. I have no FPS drop and no ping spikes, or certainly not high enough to warrant the lag on the game. It feels like I'm playing with 1000ms but speedcheck and Teamspeak say my ping is about 18-36ms. I was on wireless when it started and have since installed an ethernet cable but still getting lag on that as well. It's not just Black Desert online but also CS:GO (actually thats even worse than BDO). I'm not lagging in offline games but if I'm watching a video while having the online game open that lags at the same time. Also have a RGB keyboard which is running a rainbow spectrum that jutters when the game lags too.

This is really making everything impossible to play and I'm getting to the point of thinking of buying a new PC just to have something working again.

No ping spikes? Well that's strange. I'll contact a friend who is really good at these things, may he could help you here. I am following the thread as well to know the answer for such weird thing.

No ping spikes, but have you checked your packet loss? High ping and packet loss don't necessarily happen at the same time. War Thunder has a built-in ping and PL monitor; I've watched my ping hover at 90ms (normal) while my packet loss hits 70% occasionally.

How do I check packet loss? and if it is packet loss how do I stop it?

Packet loss, like sudden high ping, is often caused by issues outside of your own equipment. One way to monitor it is by pinging a game server with "ping IP /t" but remember, leaving ping commands running too long can cause them to think you're trying to DDoS them.

If it was an issue with me and the server wouldnt it just be one game and not any online game?

No, because the routes between you and any game server could wind up all going through the same device at some point, and if that device is having issues then all of your connections will be affected.

Edit:

Wait, somehow I missed what you said about your keyboard also stuttering. Run monitoring software, such as CPUID HWMonitor, and tell us what your CPU and GPU temperatures are while playing CS:GO and BDO.

I do have heat issues if I haven't cleaned out my heat sink in a couple of months, but usually if I have heat problems it hits 80degrees and shuts down. When I'm playing bdo with ts and also my browser open I'm running at 60-65 for my CPU and 59 steady on my GPU

What's your CPU and, if you have an aftermarket one, the model of heatsink you have? If you're having heat issues just from not cleaning your heatsink for a couple months, there's a good chance that the heatsink isn't seated properly or that your thermal paste has dried out. That or your heatsink is garbage, but I'll reserve that judgement for after you report your CPU and heatsink models.

CPU is amd fx 6350 I think and it's a generic heat sink. Basically I complained to the company that made my pc that I was having heat issues and they sent me a free tiny heatsink and fan. I actually bought a better one but couldn't install it because it meant moving my motherboard to get at the back panel and that was beyond me...

I think I might have fixed it. I realised that it started around the time I got a free upgrade to the full version of Avast antivirus.... Just reinstalled it to the regular free version and I think the lag is gone.

If your AV program is doing stuff in the background, that could indeed cause lag and stuttering. Find the scheduling settings and tell it not to do anything during the times you normally play; that should allow you to keep the full version (always a good idea) while still fixing your issue.
