Only 120hz on a 144 hz monitor

I currently have a 144hz monitor but everytime I select 144hz in advanced settings it automatically jumps back to 120/119 hz. Iam currently running windows 10, I have a Nvidia graphics card and I am using a DP cable for the monitor
