News Only $299? Sapphire RX 6700 10GB Tested

There was a proper version of this card.

AMD or its AIBs silently released an non-XT variant of this GPU long back, a mid-range graphics card SKU positioned between the Radeon RX 6650 XT and the RX 6700 XT, the new RX 6700 (non-XT). It doesn't seem like the RX 6700 was an OEM-exclusive designed to get rid of silicon after all.

Some pictures also surfaced of Sapphire and PowerColor branded custom-design cards, complete with box-art designed to woo customers in stores, around June 2022 I suppose.

Seems like a decent price/performance ratio card, and this is definitely going to be much faster than my good 'ol AMD RX 480 GPU. But I'm more interested to grab a new card from the 'green camp' instead. But sometimes I'm torn and confused between choosing which model would be the best upgrade, an 8GB VRAM or 10GB or 12GB of VRAM card ?

Some new AAA games do require more VRAM, depending on the game, especially on a 1440p screen. I just want the card to be a bit more future proof as well. So it's a matter of personal needs. But 300 USD seems like a good deal for this non-XT SKU though.

Right now I'm on a 1080p screen, the 165 Hz model from BenQ.

MOBIUZ 24.5" 165Hz FHD 1080p 1ms IPS Gaming Monitor | EX2510S | BenQ US .

@JarredWaltonGPU - is this thing still in the testing process? I'm curious as to things like noise and power draw.

It was a little weird because, as I recall, the Sapphire version claims it's a 210 or 220W card, but the PowerColor version I think claims it's a 170W card. If the latter is accurate, then I'm impressed with the "better performance for less power consumption" aspect of it.

Or, maybe PowerColor and Sapphire clock them notably differently, and they perform different than each other, in which case I just throw my hands up in the air and say "WTF guys?!?"

It's fully tested. This is "deals week" because that's what our corporate overlords demand. So I'm still trying to find the time to do a full writeup. Anyway, if you want more data...

Noise: 36.8 dB(A) at 10cm.
Power: 192W gaming; 194W FurMark

Rasterization:
1080p Medium: 158.6 fps avg; 124.5 fps 99th
1080p Ultra: 93.8 fps avg; 75.5 fps 99th
1440p Ultra: 68.3 fps avg; 56.4 fps 99th
4K Ultra: 36.3 fps avg; 30.0 fps 99th

DXR:
1080p Medium: 51.8 fps avg; 39.2 fps 99th
1080p Ultra: 32.4 fps avg; 25.9 fps 99th

I love that you admit you're doing these at the demand of your corporate overlords. 😂😂😂

Thanks for the information

btw is there a test for single and multimonitor configurations on idle?
Because the 6700XT had 7w for single monitor but 33w on multimonitor . I'd assume on multi to be less than that, but could you please add that when the review is up. It would be much appreciated to satiate my curiosity.

:)

I don't bother with any of these holiday sales anymore. It's a lot of time and frustration for very little reward. I'd rather pay slightly more or wait for prices to come down on a product at this point. I'm not in the hurry I used to be to get the newest, most shiny toy on the market. I still absolutely love reading about them and getting to play with them at work though. I guess that's why I keep showing up...and bills😂

Hey Jarred, do you have some comparable numbers in regard to noise? And how is it in terms of stability?
Anyway, im really looking forward to the full review - i have been eying it for some time, and a local retailer has a pretty good deal i just dont know if its that much better than the 6650 xt (im probably going to wait for the 7600 xt anyway, but it looks rather tempting)

Not that I'm trying to speak for Jarred or anything, but, judging by the numbers on the GPU hierarchy, looks like at 1080p medium, it has only a 6% overall gain over the 6650XT.

But at 1080 ultra, it's a 10% gain, and at 1440p, a 12% gain over the 6650XT.

That 192W (Metro)/194W (FurMark) is about a 9-10% increased power draw over the Power Color 6650XT that was tested - that card came in at around 175W in Metro, 177-178W in FurMark.

I do wonder if the Power Color version of the 6700 adheres to the official 175W as it claims, and if it manages to maintain the same (or very close) performance to Sapphire's version (which was the 6700 that was tested).

Stability was fine, power use was slightly higher than the 6650 XT card I tested (both are third-party designs so they can vary a bit). I do need to get the full review out the door at some point!

Let's see...
Sapphire RX 6700:
194.1W FurMark, 192.4W Metro Exodus
36.8 dB(A) noise at 10cm, so nearly silent, 58.1 dB(A) at 75% fan speed setting.

So yeah, it's very much a "slightly better than 6650 XT, ~10% worse than 6700 XT" sort of thing. I'm going to retest everything on the 13900K test system in the coming weeks, which may change the results slightly. Basically, the 6650 XT numbers are slightly old and may or may not reflect current performance. Also, several games have had patches that altered performance quite a bit, and I don't know precisely which versions were run on which GPUs. Stay tuned for GPU benchmarks hierarchy, 2023 edition! :D

That sounds pretty awesome! That's better sound numbers than your Hellhound 6650 xt review, and I also remember guru3d being rather positive about the noise from that card. (I always try to cross reference such numbers).
Hmm, I might just try it out then.
The 6700 goes for 3124 DKK while the 6650 xt pulse is 2950 DKK (ish)

Ouch. How much is VAT (equivalent) in Denmark? That's ~$420, so 30% more than the US price, but probably about average for tech?

Danish VAT is a flat 25%, but always included in the price for normal consumers.

I have reached the conclusion that US prices shall be looked at in a 1:10 relation. It's just a rough estimate, but it somewhat makes up for vat+regional price differences
So a 300$ card shall cost around 3000 dkk.

I did it. I got over my choice/next-gen paralysis and ordered one for 2700 DKK (including VAT). Very excited to try it out.

Edit - scratch that... I ordered a pulse model by accident. That card is a few mm too thick for my case. Argh, Im frustrated...

Hey Jarred, Is there any hope of the review, or is out-prioritized by all the new releases?
Sigh. I have so much stuff I need to get done! LOL

So I ran into some issues at one point with my "new" test PC, and decided to go back and retest everything. Basically, games got some updates that really affected performance (TWW3, FH5), and I had on VBS, much to my dismay. I spent "spare" moments over the past month or so rerunning benchmarks because I needed to get updated numbers for reviews like the RTX 4070, RTX 4060 Ti, and RX 7600.

The good news: I'm basically done. I have to retest RTX 3090, RTX 3080 12GB, RX 6500 XT, RX 6400, and the Arc A770 16GB still, and it takes about one day per card. But at least I have all the main midrange through extreme GPUs up to date finally.

And with that done, I can try to chip away at my backlog. RX 6700 10GB (which keeps waffling between being a stupidly priced card and a good option). Arc A770 8GB (which looks idiotic in light of the $200 A750). And probably ten or so third-party cards for RTX 40-series and RX 7000-series. I'm hoping the summer gives me a bit of a respite from new product launches. :-D

No promises on a time frame, but I do want to get it done still.

Completely understandable. I was also just curious. The thing is, that it would probably be the only written "established media" review of the bloody card. But don't sweat it. There is so much happening in the space right now
