I had a problem which I never addressed in windows XP. I installed 4GB of ram, but my XP used to see only 3gb. Now I thought installing WIndows 7 would solve this, but no again only 3gb is usable out of the 4. Here is the specs of my machine, any help is appreciated.

Hi ocean :hello: . It's because you have a x32 bit operating system & that is all. You'll probably have some what over 3 gigs of ram showing like I get in mine. I would not worry about it though 😉 . You can always reduce the amount of ram being used by system restore 😉 . Maybe 5% is all you need for system restore or even less. :)

hi im trying to install windows 7 64bit software but when i try to open the setup file this message pops up saying the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows your running. but checked my computer and it says i can use 64bit. please help me out if anyone knows how i can install windows 7 64bit

32-bit Linux can use more than 2GB of memory. It has this PAE - Physical Address Extension - that allows use of more than 4GB. The restriction is that each process can only use 2GB, so it is quite a valuable thing if you use many smaller application rather than one large one.

Wikipedia's PAE article says it is possible to run Windows 7 32-bit version with PAE enabled and get up to 64-GB, like with Linux, but mentions concerns about stability. I wonder if anyone here has tried it...
