Need help. It's been so long.

I've tried the RAM in every possible configuration. I've tried each stick of RAM individually to see if there was a sole defective one. I've gotten the RAM RMA'd. I've gone into BIOS to change the ref cycle time.

It should be noted that my computer automatically powercycles once or twice before booting up or on resets, though this hasn't caused any apparent problems in 2+ years now. I have no idea if the problem is related. I've ordered a new power supply which is on the way, so we'll rule that out soon as well.

These are my specs:

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL

PS: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

HDD: Seagate 1.5TB

MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

GPU: GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

CPU: Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield Quad-Core 3.06 GHz LGA 1366 130W BX80601950 Processor

OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

It's difficult to say for sure - sometimes incompatible RAM doesn;t want to work (as it's not compatible), but then sometimes it does, to a point (like 8GB). Officially, even 8GB of your RAM isn't compatible, but it works.

RAM is confusing sometimes. I would assume you're getting 8GB from slots 2 & 4, the other 2 are not recognized (ultimately, it's 2 of the slots being recognized - nothings wrong with any particular stick of RAM if you've tried them in all configurations).

Have you tried the 4xDIMM in triple channel as per the manual I linked?

You want the RAM in slots A1 & A2, B1 & C1

I didn't see anything labeled "VTT" in my BIOS, but I raised the QPI DRAM voltage by +0.075. No change, unfortunately.

I also found another forum saying the XMP feature on ASUS motherboards can make the voltage run high.. Mine was set to 1.4 by XMP. I set it down to 1.2, which didn't change anything either.

I don't have an answer, but wanted to post this info for everyones reference, incase they can make more sense out of it than I can.

Spec from here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X58/specifications/

QVL list on page 31 here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1366/Sabertooth_X58/e5995_sabertooth_X58.pdf

Looks like the board has 6xDIMM slots, supporting a maximum 24GB

Looking at the QVL list, it doesn't appear the board supports too many 4GB sticks.......Kingston shows support for 4GB, but everything else is listed at #x2GB or #x1GB

Looking at the manual, it says that G.Skill 4GB sticks are supported, although the ones it lists are all sold 4GB x 2. I bought mine as 4GB x 4. For the record, the Kingston sticks that my MOBO supports are 6GB sticks, and there are plenty of sticks listed which are greater than 2GB.

Ok, so I looked into my RAM. This is it:

F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL

The manual indicates that the MOBO is compatible with:

F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL as well as many other types of RAM, but this was the closest to my own.

Ah, sorry about that, I see I read that part of the manual wrong in my haste. So is my RAM likely incompatible because it's not listed? I have tried pairing the RAM in different configurations, it always seems to work up to 8GB.

Can you please clarify what this means? Is it just referring to the A1 & A2, B1 & C1 configuration? If so, yes, that is how my RAM is seated.
