So it started off as my displays going black and not detecting any signal from my GTX 780 card. After that happened sporadically for a day or so, I noticed that my PC was only detecting/using 1 of my 4 physical cores (8 including virtual). So once my Processor was suffering drastic performance reductions, I decided to take out the video card/Processor just to see if there was any obvious damage and/or wear. Granted I'm a bit rusty as far as troubleshooting, but there was no obvious damage to it, so I hooked it all back up proper and then... nothing.

It didn't power up at all and no matter what I tried it seemed that something had broke. A friend had a spare GA-Z97X-SLI to replace my G1.Sniper and I just managed to get it all hooked up and after a few hiccups, HERE WE ARE!

My question/problem still seem to be my CPU-Z is still only detecting 1/4 cores on my processor... and just so I don't break anything else, I was curious as to what you fine folk would recommend I do now that I have the hardware more or less functional.

First thing that comes to mind is drivers/BIOS updates, but I wasn't sure exactly where to begin. Instead of winging it like my usual approach. I wanted to do this right the first time. So any place to begin as well as any extra tips you could offer would be more than appreciated. Now, let's get this started! 😀

Go into msconfig(use the "Run" command), click "boot" tab, then click on "advanced options" and check the "number of processors" is 8. If it only shows 1, then click the drop down box and select the maximum number, then "apply" and restart and then recheck CPU-Z. Hope this works.

Nope, it's only showing 1 on the menu, I already looked there. After screwing with it I've updated my BIOS/drivers and it doesn't seem to be making much difference. Processor temps are reaching 130-160 F too... I think whatever happened to my mobo might have ruined my processor too. Anyway to tell if the processor is damage? I thought about cleaning the bottom of it but didn't know how or what to use.

Start >> Search >> Msconfig >> Boot >> Advanced, Remove the check from processor save and reboot
