I just built my new pc and I am using a benq monitor with built in speakers, the speakers work fine but when I try to plug in headphones to the headphones port on the pc or the monitor I only hear the system sounds that windows 10 makes, the sound from the youtube videos continue to come out of the monitor?

if I plug the headphones in then refresh the page, the sound from the video will come into the headphones but if i unplug the headphones then the video stops playing and an error occurs

all my drivers are up to date

does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not great with audio drivers. If my system works, I basically only mess with equalizers in the software I'm playing audio from.

I guess if it works, it works. Strange, though. You'd think the Realtek driver associated with the motherboard would work fine.

Personally, I'd let it go unless you run into more problems.
That's a strange issue.

To be clear, you're getting the same issue if you plug the headphones into the monitor or into the PC? And when you plug your headphones into the PC, are you plugging them into the headphone jack on the motherboard or in a jack on the case?

Also, can you give us either a typed out version or a screenshot of the error you're getting?

Lastly, how is your monitor getting audio? Is it HDMI or through an audio cable plugged into your computer (or something else)?

Off the bat, it sounds like something is funky with how your computer is handling the hand-off between where audio is assigned to play. There could be several reasons for that. With more info, we can probably narrow it down.

When I plug in the headphones into the monitor i get no sound at all, when i plug them into the headphone jack on the front of the case i only get system audio (e.g. when you are adjusting the volume) and same thing when i plug into headphone jack on motherboard.

my monitor is getting audio from an hdmi cable coming from my video card.

windows 10 is also recognizing whenever i plug and unplug the headphones,

when I plug in my headphones, refresh youtube, play the video with sound coming to the headphones and then when I unplug the headphones this is what happens
I dont know how to attach a screen shot but it looks exactly like in the beginning of this video

I did some more test and when watching videos on microsoft 's edge browser everything works as it should, also when i tried plugging in my headphones while watching netflix from the app the sound behaved normally, but when i put netflix on from google chrome the same thing was happening where the sound as I mentioned in my original question. It seems like a google chrome issue, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall google chrome but that didn't fix it, google chrome is also having trouble loading plug ins. here is a another question that I just asked that might be related to this problem:

I don't have java installed on my pc, do I need that to run plugins and fix the sound on google chrome?

I uninstalled the realtek audio driver from my pc and then restarted, after restarting the pc automatically found a new audio driver to replace realtek, it's just called high definition audio device (from microsoft) and so far everything works as it should. I thought every computer uses realtek audio, it even appears here as part of the drivers for the motherboard I am using???
